What People are saying

A week in the condos of beautiful weather in May of this year.

travelerbeach2016 on 09/06/2017 01:06

When we arrived we were given a 3rd floor condo and objected to the two flights of stairs. They then placed us in a nice townhouse condo that we entered from the first floor closer to the hotel and restaurant accesses. We were a bit disappointed as only one buffet restaurant for bkfast, lunch, and dinner or another as well for dinner occassionally, and the website did not indicate such. The pool bar and at least one inside bar at the hotel was open every evening, depending on he number of tour guests. We happened to stay during the onslaught of a dozen or so Austrian tour buses stay. That was fine, but they seemed to cater their buffets to their food as well. I only had fish 3 nights out of our week, but there were lots of sausages an other German/ Bavarian fare.. All in all the resort was pretty good, with most service people nice and accommodating. The location to Peniscola proper and Benicarlo was great, with an easy bus ride to either. The seaside location was great too, as the boardwalk could take you to both city centers and attractions. Being off season, was also a positive, as their were not very many tourists.

Good base for a relaxing holiday at a great beach

This was booked through RCI and the directions for the location were accurate and we had no problems navigating down to it from Barcelona which is about 2hrs drive north.
We knew that it was a 2 bed unit with stairs inside up to the bedrooms and a partial kitchen and A/C. What is not so clear is that there is one block on the LHS which is just 2 floors and on the other side its 4 floors high, our unit #143 was in the 4 story block - with no elevator and no porter service this meant lugging all our suitcases up an outside staircase to the 3rd floor so if this is going to be an issue for you request if possible a unit on the ground floor.
The units are very clean but fairly dated with a nice balcony, furniture is solid but showing its age, beds were hard but comfortable - its was fine for us as there was only 2 people, 4 in the unit would be fine but beyond that it requires people to sleep on the sofabed in the relatively small living space, kitchen table for dining would be a challenge for more than 4 people as well. Kitchen area has a 2 burner hob, a high end coffee maker ,small fridge and sink with limited storage space which was fine for all we needed. We also got a midweek cleaning with fresh sheets and towels which was nice and on checkin we were given 2 voucher codes for Wifi for the week, the wifi was slow and weak signal but sufficient for email. There is really no english tv and not a lot of english spoken in this area so you do need to have at least some spanish to get about successfully.
Checkin is at the hotel next door - Peniscola Plaza and there is no parking at the apartments, if you have a car your options are to either pay a 7 euro per day charge to park in the underground carpark at the hotel or park approx 150m down the road where there is a small parking area on the side of the main road- this is what we did and it worked out fine but in high season it might be a challenge to find street parking close by.
The location is the best thing thing about the apartments - There is a gate straight out onto the beachfront and the beach is beautiful and very long. There is a long paved walk for several miles along the beachfront with lots of very reasonable good quality restaurants.
Overall we had a great time, did a couple of trips inland to hill towns and spent a day exploring the old town and castle area of Peniscola. Would definitely return

A Good Home Base for Our Family Trip

Donna A on 31/03/2016 01:41

My sister-in-law who has a timeshare with RCI (Resort Condominiums International) booked this apartment-hotel on our family trip to serve as our home base while we drove around in Spain and to France. It worked really well for us.

Jardines del Plaza is located in a resort town by the Mediterranean coast. It is just steps away from the beach. It's probably crawling with tourists on the summer months. On our stay there were only enough people to keep the hotel lively.

I appreciate the front desk people for their professionalism and helpfulness. We are non-Spanish speaking and they tried their best to assist us with everything. The hotel should be proud of you, all, for your excellent work!

The apartments are two-story with two rooms with a bath and a half, kitchen, and living room. It is obvious that they have been around for years as it shows in the furnishings and linens. However, the family did not mind these so much as we were away most of the time.

We tried one of the dinner buffets one night. It wasn't bad. The Spanish beef stew made an impression to family members. It was good!

We had a good stay at Jardines del Plaza. I wouldn't mind staying again should another opportunity comes.

A very relaxing holiday

We have stayed here 3 times with RCI.

The first time we drove and had a lot of trouble finding the place. If you look for the Peniscola Plaza Hotel you won't have any problem. That is where you check in for Jardines Del Plaza.

We don't drive there anymore though. We fly to Valencia, take the Metro from the airport to Xativa, cross the road to Valencia Estacio del Nord and take the Barcelona train to Benicarlo where there is a taxi rank (or you can walk into Benicarlo and get a bus, or walk all the way along the seafront if feeling fit).

The two bedroom apartments are like little villas. Adequately furnished, but in need of a little updating.

Not having a car is a little restricting, but Peniscola, Benicarlo and Vinaros are all lovely with plentiful and cheap places to eat. The local bus service is excellent. There is also a very good supermarket about 10 minutes walk from the apartment and smaller ones closer (not always open out of season).

Apartments are serviced twice a week. There is no English TV. In fact there is not much English spoken anywhere so it pays to speak a little Spanish.

Peniscola old town is especially worth exploring if you are up to the steep hills and steps.

We had booked to stay the Jardines del Plaza through RCI vacations- when we arrived(that was difficult part of the name on the sign was unlit & difficult to see from street that runs along the waterfront & arriving in the middle of the night there was no -one to ask & difficult to find the street that you enter the lobby from. Upon arrival they wanted us to stay in the hotel not the condo unit- we didn't think that was a good idea since that was not what we booked. A security guard was called to escort us to the condo- he various loud words of Spanish he basically refused & we had to find our own way up the worst set of stairs in the pitch black to find a unit that we had no view from at all! Plus couch was not a pretty site! They assured us we could have a room in the hotel the next day if we wanted to move & we did move- although note parking garage a tight fit for even small vehicles. Our room in the hotel had a beautiful view to the beach & was very clean (same couch better condition) you could easily sleep 8 people in this unit- had walk in shower & a separate small tub. Every room has a balcony with 2 chairs & table- lovely at any time unless the winds get crazy- loved sitting out there! Tons of closet space & wonderful full length mirrors. Just remember no shows in English on the TV but fun to watch home improvement shows dubbed over in Spanish late at night! Internet was expensive & extremely slow. Extra fee for using electricity that you have to pay upon arrival. Difficult to find ice as in they don't seem to have any but begged for a little from the bar. Some staff are good with English & helpful others not so much! Although all gratuities are included so that might be why? We did love the town & the boardwalk is incredible you can walk it for hours. The castle is the high-light of this town- amazing view could wonder those streets all day- so scenic & beautiful. The food anywhere you eat in this town is amazing & the price is acceptable for travelling. Loved this town & hotel but not the absolute easiest place to find in the dark!!
