Its Doric pillars, ornamental staircases and large windows bear testimony to the artistic brilliance of the past. While its well-preserved paintings, old photographs (of the royal houses of Bikaner and Mewar), period furniture and curios lend a distinctive ambiance that relaxes the travel-weary guests. Bikaner, the walled city on the Rajasthan border is famous for its forts, palaces, temples, fairs and festivals, arts and crafts, folk music and wildlife. A large number of tourists visit this impressive and captivating city to explore its beauty and timeless charm as evident in various monuments.Bikaner dating back to 1488 AD was established by the Rajput prince Rao Bika ji, a descendent of the founder of Jodhpur, Rao Jodha ji. Bika ji selected this barren land called "Jungladesh" and shaped it into an impressive city, called Bikaner. As per archeological records civilizations flourished in this region much before the Harappan period. What People are saying

Do Not Go Here !!!!

I love Art Deco and was extremely disappointed at the condition this former Maharajah’s residence had become. My son and l thought we were staying in a morgue it felt so dead. The energy of this place is sad , tired & lifeless . I asked the staff if they had any reading material, none ! The beds were too short and as our feet were hanging over the edge . Would not waste my money coming here again and management should be ashamed to have let this place get to this condition.

Heritage property

This is a nice place to stay, but only if u are on a leisure trip. Its far from the city area, u hardly get commuting options. Food is a on costlier side. So be prepared to shell more money to satisfy ur hunger. Though food quality is very good.

Must try masala omlett and vegetable / non-vegetarian platter.

Very polite and co-operative staff..

I would recommend this place only if u have ur own vehicle and u r travelling on a vacation.

Visited this place for a quick meeting. A quite, boutique property with huge gardens, big size rooms and large washrooms. They have a small conference hall as well suitable for business meetings. Tried coffee which was really tasty along with great hospitality from the staff. Met the GM-Mr. Raghuveer Singh as well who was been very humble. Had a nice time.

Old fashioned luxury in the middle if town

EStruwig on 12/04/2017 13:00

Enormous rooms with palace styled furniture.
Very old and dilapidated bathrooms.
The space and the ambience of the place compensate for the bathrooms!
Lovely dinner in lovely lounge with atmosphere galore
A lovely place to stay.
The reception of the hotel needs to be changed - shocking
At first we thought it was a guard room

Former palace with great Indian food

My wife and I only spent one night at this hotel on our way from Jaipur to Jaisalmer and were the only guests that night. The building once used to be the home of a very wealthy family before it was converted into a hotel. They gave us a very large room with antiquated furniture, separate dressing room and a large bath. Although we thought that such a large room was unusual for a hotel we felt very comfortable and enjoyed the fantastic Indian food which we were served both at dinner and at breakfast. The next morning the entire palace and garden were set up to accommodate a large wedding party of several hundred people. This was probably their main business and explains why their food was so delicious.

Our tour operator had selected Bikaner for a stopover to visit the magnificent fort which served as the former residence of the maharadschas ruling Bikaner from the early 1800s onwards, the magnificent houses and mansions of the old town as well as the only scientific camel breeding institution in India. All three points of interest were very much worth visiting.

What we liked best about the "Karni Bhawan"was its great cuisine and its extremely friendly and helpful staff.
