Not the greatest

We stayed here for 3 nights recently. Sadly, I cannot recommend it.
We arrived quite late, around 8 and were shown to our room. The room was a disappointment after having been labelled as "deluxe". The beds were far to hard to enjoy a good nights sleep, some of the linen was soiled and worst of all, there was no hot water.
After complaining to our tour organisers we were given an upgrade to a much nicer room the next day but it begs the question if they have upgraded some rooms, why not all and how you are supposed to know whether you are going to get a well appointed room or something less as there is no way to be assured.
On the matter of the hot water, it appears that they use solar energy with a back up system and the day we arrived had been overcast. The back up had not been turned on and one can only assume that this was to save money.
Another example of this was that the shampoo etc miniatures in the bathroom had not been replenished but the half used bottles of the previous guests had been left.
On the plus side, it has a great location on the lake and the restaurant was reasonable. However, contrary to all other places we have visited in India, there seemed to be an indifference to customer service,
.
Can't beat the views

I would rate the hotel a 5 for the views, and our large balcony but the hotel lacked good service in the restaurant and needs updating in places. The breakfast is not buffet style, choice o.k , no side plates for toast , slow to clear tables. I would question the cleanliness, squirrels on the tables in the morning, Cushions torn. No hot water in the room on our second morning. The rooms were quite compact, but clean and well serviced daily. Our balcony , yes , under a tree but could have been swept whilst we were there, as stayed for 3 nights. Fridge in our room and fresh water daily. Not worth the money.
Why?

Stayed here for 2 nights, thankfully that's all. It's only redeeming factor is the view. The restaurant does in fact reserve at least 6 tables for hotel guests but the food and service are ordinary to say the least. The minibar is an empty noisy old fridge which I switched off. The beds are 2 feet off the ground and for the first and only time in our long tour we had rubber pillows.
We had a first floor corner suite which again had great views but the hand towels were dirty and room cleanliness is not a strong point here.
If you aren't fussy about the view, spend a little more and go elsewhere.
169/175 for value says it all

Tripadviser usually gets it right as far as we are concerned. What I amazed at is that this place gets so many good reviews.
Sure, itâs right on the lake and the setting is difficult to beat. For us, that was the end of the good stuff.
Our room was very small for a suite and on the ground floor the windows were small. We couldnât open the curtains because we looked right into the next room (and on one occasion its naked inhabitants). There was a bath but it and the tiles were stained.
We booked a table for dinner and were seated at the worst table in the place - by the bar and behind a pillar with me looking at a wall 2 metres away. We refused it and waited 40 hungry minutes until we were grumpily seated at a slightly better but not wonderful table. Service was not apparent. The rice arrived 10 minutes after the rest of the poor quality food and we got sick the next day, though proof of any connection is impossible.
The next night a large party held a party in the room above until finally hotel management took action at midnight. I discussed this at check out but did not even get an apology.
Finally the massage was a waste of money. The lack of privacy was disconcerting and it was far from the usual relaxing experience.
I had expressed some reservation with our tour arranger prior to booking but received assurances. Next time I will trust my gut instinct. Iâd pay a lot more for a higher quality experience.
Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.
Wonderful view of udaipurâs important landmarks from your table

We were taken by our guide to eat at this place. We had found this place by our own search but our Guide insisted on us going to this place - without giving us any details of the place. I donât like to be played in the hands of guides! But this restaurant does offer you an amazing ambience. With dim lights you have most amazing view of city palace- Tajâs Lake Palace hotel and the whole Lake off course.
They had a live flute player under the tree, providing perfect background.
Food was Ok,
Service OK
Itâs worth going not so much for food but the total experience of sitting on the lake and enjoying the best view.
