We got our driver to take us to this palace. It was one of the Maharajas palaces where he put guests! You pay Rs100 at the gate and you can walk around the palace and then have a free cup of tea. There is a lot of work going on and it needs it! This could be such a fabulous hotel.
British Style

This not a review of the hotel. I had taken a visitor ticket to walk around the hotel. The ticket is Rs.100 per person and they let you roam around for one hour. You get a complimentary tea or coffee from their restaurant.
The structure itself is amazing. I loved this place more than the Maharaja Palace. It has a very British feel to it. The place actually looks royal. The woodwork, the doors, windows, floors, ceilings are all so amazing. You feel connected to the Brits instantly! There is a beautiful silence and cleanliness to this place. Lots and lots of space!! High ceilings! Muuaaahhh!
If you are the kind who likes classy stuff and wanto be away from routine touristy places, then you'll like this.

Lalitha Mahal was one of 13 palaces owned by the Maharaja of Mysore, and is some 4km out of town. My visit was intended to be a nostalgia highlight moment on our tour of south India, unfortunately it turned into a real disappointment.
When I backpacked around India and Nepal over 30 years ago I stayed in some pretty basic places, and that was fine as I had a limited funds. However as I was in budget I decided to give myself 2 days of luxury living and stayed in Lalitha Mahal before backpacking on. I remember how grand the place felt, and how upmarket it was then.
When we arrived at the security gate for an evening meal the security man demanded 200 RS from the taxi driver for the privalige of visiting - which I refused to pay. I was going.to leave but my wife reminded me that it had memories for me so we walked to the main entrance. Not a good start.
We walked up the grand steps and initially no staff were visible - then a somewhat dishevelled man rushed out and invited us to visit his stall of tourist wares in one of the landings off the main entrance. After that a doorman dressed in a resplendent red turban appeared and wished us a good evening, and pointed out where the restaurant was in response to my question.
We walked along a long corridor towards the restaurant entrance and as we entered a junior employee emerged. We looked about - the restaurant had 50 plus poorly laid out table settings -and was entirely empty. Not one other diner. We always take that as a bad sign, so we didnât even ask for the menu but turned on our heels to see if the bar was any better.
We walked back along the corridor -past some untidy function room ,which had not been cleared, down another corridor to the bar. There were four French visitors and two Americans and a barman - who turned to be the Hotel manager. We did get a beer, but after a couple of power cuts decided to order a cab to eat in Mysore.
When my wife went to the loo I got talking to the bar/ manager and mentioned my visit many years ago. He offered to show me some of the rooms - which the red turbaned man then proudly showed us. A few of the rooms looked a bit faded, but must have been lovely many years ago. I asked to see the corner room I had stayed in years ago and was told it was not possible as the room had not been made up.
This was a totally disappointing visit - and sadly shows what utter incompetent mismanagement can do to a hotel. Not recommended.
Lalitha palace

Heard a lot about this property which is now maintained by ITC. Group.
It is the second largest palace in mysore after Mysore Palace. Very antique and gives a glimpse of those era when kings and queens of mysore used to be here. Though we were there to shoot a commercial outside lawn area overnight. But the way it was decorated, it looked out of the blue. If not as a hote but surely i would recommend for wedding purposes to hire this venue. As you will be able to figure out how beautiful it looks when decorated.
Though the staff was not friendly and cooperative. Tries food there for sinner and food was good enough in terms of quantity and quality.
Expensive place for a photoshoot

The place is very nice and I had my wedding photo shoot with my fiancée at the time.
The property is very well maintained but there are some very weird rules for photographers about their timings.
Itâs a little on the expensive side in terms of cost for charging and they are sticklers for time as well.
If you are getting photo shoot just once and only for your wedding, itâs totally worth it.
Also had a reasonable good dining experience here.
