Stunning building but rooms with no charm and very expensive restaurant

We stayed one night in the Laxmi Niwas Palace. Service was very welcoming and the building and common areas were beautiful but the rooms had no charm and were very simple for the price we payed.
We also found that the restaurant was very expensive for the quality of the food, which was a pity as the hotel is not very centric so we didn't have any other choice.
Overall, I would not stay again in the Laxmi Niwas Palace.
Grand well kept classic and memorable hotel.

We tried to get a taste of India by staying at a mix of modern hotels, boutique hotels, and classic hotels, this one and Umaid Mahal in Jaipur were the two that fell into this cateogry.
Hotel grounds: Set in a huge garden with a large front, and back yard, large enough for 2 football fields each. Well kept, and maintained, for the maharajah to take his morning walk (he lives on the grounds). The center courtyard is fantastically well preserved. 3-4 storey buildings enclosing a lovely courtyard with a small pond. Dinner, cultural dances, music and a flutist in the morning keep the enchantment going.
Rooms: Large, fairly originaly with minimal renovation. Chairs and beds creak due to the old age. Everything works but could be upgraded one notch.
Bathroom: Large with a huge bathtub. Comfortable, clean and not modern.
Food: We had dinner in the courtyard and that was one of our best experiences, both food, music, dance and service were top notch.
Cleanliness: Very clean, even the public patios and huge gardens were well kept and clean.
Service: Pleasant, smiling but lacking in the final 20% of smiles, I felt that they could be more friendly without the fear of guest biting back.
Magnificent Palace with old world charm

My wife and I stayed one night and were fortunate to have been upgraded to a Palace suite. The room was very spacious with antique furniture. The bathroom was also very large although somewhat dated.
The palace is full of antiques and artefacts from the days of the Maharana's. We had candle lit dinner in the courtyard on a full moon night with live Rajasthani music and dance. It was truly a memorable evening made better with chilled wine, good food and great service. In the morning to wake up to this hauntingly melodious flute playing in the courtyard is something to behold.
The buildings, architecture and the gardens are magnificent. The only reservation is the billiards room with stuffed animals reflecting the hunting trophies of the past. Personally we love to see the animals in their natural habitat.
Simply superb

I am a regular visitor to Rajasthan, though Bikaner was a first for me. We thought of staying at the best place and Laxmi Niwas Palace became an obvious choice in that context. The hotel is very picturesque, it's a part of a palace which has been converted into a hotel and it feels palatial at every moment. Some of the views are absolutely spectacular. Two things stand out, the courtyard inside and the lawns overlooking the front of the hotel, both are visually absolutely brilliant. Once I arrived here I realised the shooting of Sonam Kapoor's movie Khoobsurat took place here and in a sense as a big Bollywood fan myself, to think that I stayed in the same place where a popular movie was shot was fairly nice. Would recommend people to go and stay here.

Friendly team, great property, maintenance poor. This place could be so fantastic. During dinner the cultural show was superb. Would I stay here again? Sure but this place has amazing potential. Our room 32 was very spacious and we had a great view. Breakfast could be better.
