Second visit in six months at this 5-star hotel.

Doorman was on cue as I was getting out of my taxi. Very polite and quite efficient. The front desk attendants were equally as pleasant during the registration. I was offered a pleasant chilled juice on arrival in the lobby. The hotel staff appeared to be very well trained and they focused on my comfort and were quite professional.

The bellman directed me to my room and was also very eager to get me settled in and explain all the room and hotel amenities.

The room was large with a king bed, working desk, love seat and coffee table. The room was modern and tastefully decorated. Lots of mirrors and very fresh looking. The wood floors were quite clean and well maintained. Bed linens were crisp and clean. Lots of bottles of drinking water throughout the room.

Bathrooms were all full marble with separate tub (very large) and shower area. Sink separates the tub and shower area and is spacious. Bathrooms to me are the sign of how clean the hotel keeps their rooms. This bathroom had no signs of previous guests (hair, water spots, etc). This place gets very high marks for the attention to details with cleaning.

I arrived the day before a major holiday, Republic Day. Not many guests but the hotel was fully staffed. Normally, the whole country shuts down.

Breakfast is served on the lobby level at a very large buffet style restaurant. The biggest draw to me was the assortment of freshly prepared juices in individually capped bottles. Great concept. Standard egg station at the buffet table. Egg master was friendly and made great omelets. If you do not find what you like then you probably stayed in bed and missed breakfast. Fantastic.

South Indian hospitality is awesome but I find it annoying after two or three days. Wait staff are constantly interrupting me to ask how everything is. Managers also are asking. It’s really overkill. I understand the importance of asking, having myself operated a restaurant. The number and frequency of interruptions became annoying. Also, I will often return to different areas of the buffet and then come back to my table to find it cleared and cleaned for the next guest. Gone was my coffee, juice and newspaper. This happened three of the seven days. I was annoyed and, on what would have been the fourth day, I told the server to not clear the table, that I was returning. Besides this, I found the food to be hot, fresh and very tasty. Deserts stole the spotlight, though. They have an awesome pastry chef who makes the best selection (many types and delightful presentation) of cakes, breads, donuts and other desserts. The dessert could be a meal in itself. The buffet was picture perfect. Clean and tastefully organized.

Besides dining at this particular restaurant, I ate at the Indian restaurant (Peacock) and Ponzu, Chinese restaurant both located on the first floor. The food was very good at both with large portions presented. Again, same level of interruptions, but I realize the cultural differences between India and the US are not going to be reconciled. I even tried to simply nod and get out of a conversation, but it didn’t work. I recommend the butter chicken and naan bread. Excellent preparation. I had Tom Yum soup as a starter and noodles in a pad Thai preparation as main course at Ponzu. Be prepared for high spice levels. Westerners not accustomed should always ask for mild to medium spice.

Other than some annoyances for over-kill on the service, I found this hotel to be good value.

Room very well maintained, near to Airports but located at city outskirts in a serene space . The dining space is spacious located at ground floor. The staff is quite gentle and helpful. Hotel has its swimming pool.

Nice rooms, good service, a few anomalies...need a three and a half star rating option

We arrived for our two-day stay late from Kannur as a result of a train service delay, and our checkin was friendly, and efficient - in particular the Duty Manager, Lokesh, was very helpful. We opted to upgrade to a Club room, although there isn’t actually a Club Lounge any more (?), but we scored a lovely big room on the top floor, and happy hour in the bar (local beer and wine and snacks)...so it was well worth the upgrade.
The buffet breakfast both mornings was excellent, the service very good. Plenty of drinking water provided in the room.
The travel desk organised a hotel driver for us to go to Ooty for the day...good value, as it was a last-minute arrangement on the day, a great driver, who efficiently negotiated the hair-raising mountain roads crowded with buses and trucks on hairpin bends. They also provided a very comfortable car.
On the anomaly side, there were a number of issues you wouldn’t expect in a five-star hotel. We had checklists for a mini-bar in the room, but all that was provided was tea and coffee-making facilities - no milk, only coffee creamer....the fridge and shelves were completely empty of nuts, snacks, drinks etc. No compendium in the room of the hotel services, just a room service menu. No iron provided in the room.
The pool itself is fantastic, but there is only ONE pool lounge in the whole area, the outdoor jacuzzis don’t work, seemingly no pool attendants are available to order drinks or food, and you have to hunt for pool towels.
Deserves a rating higher than Average, but not quite Very Good.
