Terrible Christmas dinner

My family and I (12people) had Christmas dinner here. We were told we could arrive from 1.30pm to be ready to eat at 2.30pm. We were all there at 2.30pm, we asked the waiting staff for drinks and were told we had to go to the bar in the next room and order ourselves, this is a restaurant surely the staff are meant to bring your drinks to you table!! Anyway we let this slide, we were still sat waiting at 3.15pm and no food had been served to us, a table who came in 30minutes after us were already being served their starters. frustrated I then asked the staff when we would be served. Eventually our starters came, I had ordered the prawn and avocado, the Marie Rose sauce was certainly out of a jar, the other starters were also a let down.
When we finally got our main course the dinner was warm, not hot, we had a small amount of dry turkey, 3 small carrots and 1 parsnip and 1 pig in blanket and 3 potatoes not the dinner we were promised which was meant to include seasonal veg, the kids meals had 1 parsnip on their plate and no other veg. It was terrible, absolutely no taste, it was all bland. By the end of the main course the young children in the high chairs were getting fed up as we had been waiting so long, they were climbing out of the high chairs as the clips that are meant to be on the high chairs were broken, this in my eyes is a Hugh health and safety risk.
My parents had paid the full price of the dinner upfront which amounted to £600, a Hugh amount of money for a terrible meal.
I asked to speak to the manager who eventually came and took me to a private room to discuss the problem. He couldn't have cared less, just kept making excuses, saying we should have told the waiting staff, I then made it clear that not once throughout the entire meal did anyone come and ask if it was ok, in my eyes this should have been the manager. He was ignorant and quite evidentially was not going to refund any of the money, he did however let us have our drinks for nothing but this was a small amount of money as most of the party were drinking soft drinks. I will never go to this hotel again.
The Manager and hotel is a shambles, never again, the ruined our Christmas.
Baby shower

Lovely place for a small party. Beautifully decorated party room for a baby shower. Good tasty buffet and good service.
Slightly tight for space but well used room for couples or groups. Slight issue with parking perhaps.
Dingy and grubby

I stayed at the hotel last night to go to a relatives party . Downstairs looks alright but the minute you start going up the stairs you notice the shabby dirty carpet . The room carpet was even worse really filthy , shabby curtains hanging off the rail , grubby walls , cracked sink in the so called bathroom ! I have never seen such a small bath the water trickled out so slowly it would have taken an age to fill it even though it was tiny so had a slow trickling shower instead and to make matters worse the toilet didn't flush . If it wasn't for the fact we had to get ready to go out , I would have looked for somewhere else to stay . Friends of ours had dirty water rising in the shower and similar grubby dirty carpet . On making a complaint they took £20 off the bill but to be honest it wasn't enough compensation for staying in a room like that.
Should & could be excellent.

I stayed a Thursday night on a personal trip down from Lancashire. I grew up in this area and the Manor has been there forever! Datchet is a lovely village on the Thames, one stop away from Windsor on the regular train. There's a pub, restaurants, shops, off license/general store with ATM (charge applied - £1.50 when I visited) and it is right over the road from the side of the hotel; plus a petrol station.
The hotel is very attractive and has a prime location in the village, right by the railway station (Waterloo line out of Windsor & Eton Riverside). With all this going for it, one would expect high standards, but unfortunately not.
On arrival I was offered no help with my bags, even though my room was at the very top of the building! The stair carpet is thread bare. My £85 deluxe double room was spacious, but had 2 velux windows; one above the bed with a closed blind and no option to open it, the other at the opposite end - on opening it to cool the room down, I found the inner edging to be filthy. The decor was incredibly bland with not even a picture hanging. The edge of the carpet and skirting board where the room door opens was thick with dust. I used the Aircon rather than the roof window. There was no light in the black tiled shower, so it was quite dark. On the plus side, the bed was very comfy and I had a pleasant nights sleep.
The hotel entrance is locked at 11pm and guests are not entrusted with a key! I was assured there was a night porter on duty to let me in if I returned later. When I did, after banging on the door and waiting, then walking around the side of the hotel where they have a Brasserie entrance and banging on that, plus some windows, and back to banging on the main entrance, just when I thought I'd be sleeping in the car ð I was finally let in! A very cheerful porter, who made no apology for, or reference to, my lengthy wait. Not good enough!
On checkout I asked if it would be possible to get a coffee and was told I could and that I could sit in the restaurant or lounge. However, on walking around I could find no one to serve me! I ended up leaving and had a lovely brunch and coffee across from the rear of the hotel in 'Nibbles'.
On booking via a hotel website, I included a special request to check-in 1 hour early, which they received, but I never got a response. As it was, with a slow journey down the M6, it wasn't needed. On leaving, I wasn't even asked if I'd enjoyed my stay, which is customary.
It is very sad that what could be a lovely hotel is so poorly run. There is so much untapped potential. Some fresh cut flowers in public areas, updated decor in the rooms - a feature wall perhaps - pictures. It's not rocket science!
Based on my stay, I would not recommend it, I'm afraid.
In need of TLC

Well the advertised photos do not match reality. Perhaps they need to show photos of the real rooms. The staff were lovely but the hotel needs a complete facelift. From the frayed carpets on the stairs to the even more threadbare carpets in the rooms. Add to this cracked window panes and dodgy taps and light fittings that donât work and you get the picture. The bed linen was beautifully clean but the dust behind the bedside cabinets had to be seen to be believed. Also the exposed bases of the divans had been inexpertly repaired/recovered.
Iâm not sure how they could justify the prices, perhaps it was a case of location location location.
It served itâs purpose as it was near where we wanted to be on the Saturday night.
But a total facelift is definitely needed. A shame as this could be a good hotel.
