My family stayed at intrepid in January. It was so amazing. The tents were luxurious, food fabulous, staff so helpful. Our driver Samson was so knowledgable and lovely to my sons (10 and 15). If it wasn't a once in a lifetime holiday we would be back tomorrow!!!!
Incredible staff - they are what make Mara Intrepids truly unique

My husband and I stayed at Mara Intrepids for four days / three nights in August 2017. It was his first time to Kenya and it was the trip of a lifetime. The camp, while four stars, still feels luxurious (the tent and hot water bottles every night!!) and the staff are incredible. Our guide was Matthew and we cannot say enough about how good he was to us - he made sure we saw everything we had hoped to see, including the elusive rhinos and leopards! Definitely request Matthew, he knows every inch of the park, took us to special, quite places, and is very knowledgeable about the animals.
We also enjoyed spending time with Nelson (our server at dinner each night) and John (the camp bartender). Huge shout outs to both of them who were warm, friendly and welcoming. Just wonderful people who went out of their way to make our visit special.
Booking through Mara Intrepids was also incredibly easy over email and online. I have stayed at their sister property, Great Rift Valley Lodge, and would recommend both as good value for what you pay.
This was a trip that we will remember forever - falling asleep to the sound of the river just below our tent porch, seeing a lioness with her two small cubs, watching a family of giraffes walk toward the sunset and having breakfast on top of the 4x4 looking over the entire valley.
Unforgettable experience !! Fantastic place.

We spent 4 nights at the Intrepid and everything was beyond expectations. Tents are super comfortable and clean, beautifully nestled in nature and overlooking The Talek river.
But the added value is definitely the staff and customer care. All of them no exception, were kind and helpful, they contribute to making it a memorable experience.
Very special mention to our guide, John Sakut, always taking us to the right place for exiting game drives and fantastic photo shoots , polite and experienced, can see a lion from miles away :)
Thank you to our Executive Chef Tom Oguma, every meal was haute cuisine. Great service by our personal waiter Julius, always with a smile.
Mint took care of our early wake up calls with coffee and biscuits and made sure our tent was always clean and ready. There are even hot water bottles in the bed at night. What a treat, especially after a few unexpected chilly days...
Last but not least, our good friend Stephen, of security, always waiting to escort us to the tent when needed.
I do not usually write reviews but I feel that this place deserves it. Said to leave.
Mostly recommended. Would definitely go back.
And btw... donât miss the Chief and his slide presentations at night of Masai culture and wildlife. We will never forget.
An amazing experience, from start to finish!

Having spent a wonderful couple of days in Nairobi, we flew from Wilson Airport â as the only passengers for the first leg of the journey! â to the Masai Mara region. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a member of staff of the Mara Intrepids Camp and driven a few hundred metres to the camp itself. That the camp is so incredibly close to the airstrip was an added bonus and meant that when we were leaving, there was no superfluous travel needed. On arrival, the staff were quickly and professionally checked us in and brought us to our luxury tent. We were given a stunning view of the river, where we would see various wildlife over the next few days and settled into our new home!
In terms of the safari itself, it was a once in a lifetime experience which we will never forget. Our tour guide, Samson, made a huge effort over the week to teach us everything that he could about the area and the wildlife, while also making it very fun. He went above and beyond the call of duty so often and gave us an incredible safari experience. From seeing our first elephants, visiting a Masai village, to watching a lion patiently stalk a warthog, the week itself was an incredible insight into the region and the wildlife that inhabit it. We hope to visit again soon and will definitely be requesting Samson as our guide.
During the week we went on a dawn hot air balloon ride and breakfast which, to be quite honest, did not live up to its billing and was really overpriced for what you receive. The day starts by being brought to another nearby camp, where hundreds of people are waiting for their hot air balloon ride. Quite quickly, you are loaded into the basket and the balloon is raised into their air. The trip itself took no more than an hour and, while reasonably enjoyable, out pilot did not do very much to make the trip particularly engaging. Once we landed, we were again transported to an open air âChampagneâ breakfast (although, in reality, it was very cheap sparkling wine), where the food was of lesser quality than we had received in the camp, after which we resumed our safari. Probably not an experience we would ever bother to repeat.
The food at the camp was of a consistently high quality and there was a really good variety over the course of the week. There were options for everyone, with all choices and preferences catered for. The waiter who looked after us all week, George, went out of his way to ensure that we were well taken care of and that the food and service stayed at the same high standard each time we ate there. On our last night there, the hotel organised a private, barbeque dinner by the water for us, which was a lovely way to round out an amazing week at the camp. We really couldnât recommend the Mara Intrepids Camp highly enough!
My first safari

My first safari and Iâm so pleased to have experienced it through Mara Intrepidâs Tented Camp. The Camp was welcoming, friendly and exactly as already recorded plus nothing was an inconvenience for their wonderful staff. The food was amazing too and Iâm still craving the desserts.
So now to the game drives, we were lucky to have our Masai guide John, he was knowledgeable, respectful to the animals and had a passion for what he does, he couldnât resist taking a photo of a leopard himself. With us on our drives we also had Dixon who was training, his enthusiasm and love of his country was evident and it was joy watching John teaching Dixon. The Mara didnât disappoint, tons of lions and some with cubs, hippos, leopards, elephants and cheetahs. We were honoured to see a cheetah kill also lions with their kills including two young males sharing a zebra. I would recommend a breakfast picnic firstly it allows your guide to cover some distance and to find some space where you feel as though you are alone with the animals and secondly we had the privilege one morning to share our breakfast with several groups of hippos and crocodiles. If you can request John I definitely would, he was a superb guide and he seemed to know everyone which is a bonus when trying to locate some of the elusive animals.
If I had to put a âconâ it be directed at myself for not taking enough warm clothes but Iâll know for next time as there will be next time.
