Very Disappointed

I am not a picky person but I was really disappointed with my room at The Grand Hotel. I booked 2 standard rooms which turned out to be worn, drab, and very cold. I think my room was 403 and my friend was next door in 404, I believe. They were just off the lift so it was very noisy with rowdy people who were probably coming in from a night of partying it up. Some of them would stand outside my door laughing and talking loudly after 1 am. The room and bathroom were clean but it was so grungy that I didn't want to touch anything. What really upset me was the desk that was put in front of the heater so you couldn't even use it. The only heating came from the bathroom's radiator. I wore my jacket in my room! I didn't complain because I was too tired and was only there overnight, leaving at 5 am the next day. Besides, my friend said her room was just as bad so there didn't seem to be much point.
I was also irritated because I was in a hurry and needed to order room service for my dinner before heading out to a show. I called the number twice and was unable to get an answer so I walked down to the bar and ordered my meal there. The food came out quickly and I just decided to eat it at the bar. The food was good enough.
Even the lobby was a bit disappointing. The photos show a really cool black and white chair which is actually very dirty in person. The white was filthy and looked like it needed a good cleaning. There is also a tufted bench near the lift in the lobby that is neat but is also very worn-looking. This hotel really isn't as nice as it appears in the photos. Perhaps if you book early enough or pay for more expensive rooms, they may be nice but the standard were NOTHING like what I expected from the photos on their website. I did not explore the other areas of the hotel which may have been nicer but what my friend and I did see were not at all worth the money we spent. I will never stay there again and definitely do not recommend it.
very good right at the city centre

Had a shaky start to begin with there was no hot water in my room. The receptionist by the name of Nick was so helpful he sorted me another room straight away and if you look at the photos you can see I was well pleased to say the least. He even sorted me some vouchers for a couple of drinks ,only down side to all this was on the night of my stay there was a party at night and the noise was unbearable which went on till the early hour's of the morning but not to worry. The breakfast was very nice but a slow toaster lol. Overall I had a great stay and that has to go down to Nick who truly looked after me . Thank you so much to all the staff I look forward to seeing you all again in March.

Stayed overnight for a business trip. In the centre of Leicester, great location. Nice bar with lots of choice. Room was nice enough and clean. Breakfast is buffet style but everything was nice and all the staff were friendly. We are planning to go back this time for pleasure and we will definitely choose Mercure Leicester The Grand Hotel for our stay.

First impressions count. There was a long queue to check in, and only one member of staff on the desk, so I had to wait five or ten minutes to check in. The lady was also answering the phone and putting calls through which was a little infuriating. Service at the bar was a bit slap dash - they had a big social event on and seemed to be overstretched in staffing terms. Breakfast was OK, good even - £11 which was apparently a promotional price. Parking cost an additional £8, but there seemed to be no access control on the car park - it appeared that anyone would have been able to park in there. The hotel is very well located, right in the heart of the City and close to the rail station. However, it was obviously once a "grand hotel" and is now a little tired, could probably do with a makeover.
