I chose the hotel because of it's close proximity to seminar I was attending. The hotel room was nice and spacious. The shower head didn't stay properly up and the bathroom air condition was really noisy. The walls weren't soundproofed either so you could hear everything they did in neighbouring rooms.
I had bed+breakfast rate because I have the accor hotels account (recommended!). The breakfast was meant to be buffet and it was good basic English breakfast type of buffet. The second morning which was Saturday they informed that there wouldn't be buffet as there wasn't enough customers so I just got plate of full English. On Sunday morning there was buffet again but all the hot stuff was not so hot and cold stuff had clearly been there since Friday.
I didn't use the spa. The restaurant had a good food but the stuff were really lazy.

This hotel is quite isolated, but on business you donât need to go out, as the restaurant and bar are excellent. Room service is also available.
A big and varied menu and all in our group enjoyed their meals. Waiting and bar staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was varied and tasty, but the juice machine only had 1 of 4 options working.
Room was fantastic, couldnât fault it, modern and very comfortable with a new and clean full bathroom. A safe would be useful for guests on business, to lock away the tablet / laptop when dining.
Didnât use the gym or pool, but looks ok. Golf course onsite, so I might visit again in the spring or summer!!
Lots of parking and easy to find, just a couple of minutes from the A1(m).
Finding your room is a challenge, plenty of people were getting lost, but all in rooms beginning with a 3. The rooms beginning with a 1 or 2 are well signposted, but it would help to signpost 3 from reception. Only a problem on arrival really.
Check-in was slow, but then again a lot of guests did seem to arrive at the same time, desk staff were friendly and helpful.
Definitely a hotel I will use again.

Reception was comfortable, staff were very helpful, rooms were lovely - restaurant provided beautiful food but had a more of a pub feel atmosphere. Breakfast area was nice ( buffet Breakfast) different breakfast on request.
Spar area was a bit of a let down - compared to others I've visited the pool is small with no seating area apart from a few plastic chairs around the side, Jacuzzi was lovely & hot as is the steam room and sauna.
Negatives is the spar area and small pool.
Having to walk through the gym in your swim wear.
Local yob ( member of the gym/Spar) with his partner and 4 children, spouting off about how many people were using the facilities that week ... must be giving away free passes. Although not the hotels fault it gave a negative effect on our stay- we'd payed £120 for one night with use of facilities and this made us feel like we weren't welcome. Normally we would use the facilities for a good couple of hours and this time we were in and out within 20 minutes. Part of the hotel was under renovation but apart from the cold corridor - this never effected us.
Our next door neighbours were having a mini rave in their room ( someone's birthday) to the point where I thought I was next to a function room. ( yet again not the hotels fault - but had a negative effect on our stay).
This was a night away to recharge our batteries without our children - we were more drained on returning home and had to take turns napping on the afternoon.

My experience on my last visit a few months ago wasn't brilliant, I wasn't expecting much this time, i have to say i was pleasantly surprised, check in process was good, I explained the issues I had previously & asked not to be put in the same roo again (I think last room was 411), I was given room 319 nearer to the restaurant, it was so much better than last time, felt a bit bigger & maybe it had been refurbished. Had breakfast which was included, great selection & my timing was good as hot food was all fresh, great selection & service good too. Geest experience for a budget hotel & if in the area i will stay here again. I think getting the right room is key as parts of the hotel are being redeveloped.

The hotel was lovely, the room was clean, the staff were friendly and the food was good .
We had a beautiful walk to the angel of the North (only 3 miles each way)
We did not end up using the spa as we ran out of time.
