Myself and my boyfriend stayed here for two nights whilst visiting Edinburgh. We booked this hotel mainly for its location and the fact that it had a gym and pool. However, Upon our arrival we were told that the pool was being renovated and wasn't in use which was quite disappointing. I believe we should have been informed about this prior to our stay. The breakfast was absolutely gorgeous and has everything you could want! The check in and breakfast staff were lovely and extremely helpful. The room was nice and had everything you could need. The only other disappointment during our stay was a mistaken phone call we received from reception in the middle of the night (3AM) on the Saturday night of our stay. I mentioned this at the desk the next day and although the man working at reception apologised for this mistake, I believe we should have been offered some kind of explanation and compensation. The hotel is in an excellant location, and apart from the pool being closed and being awoken in the middle of the night, we had a very good stay.

We booked 4 rooms for 3 nights. Checked in at 1 am and rooms were dirty and smelly. Also we werent informed earlier about clouser of pool and other facilities. Which we paid price of. Asked to change the room, axel the night guy was very helpful tried to give us different room but he gave us room which was designed for ohysically challenged people. It was 2 single beds joined together. That ruined the night completely as it caused a back pain. We did not have choice rather than staying in those rooms as they did not have any other room.We asked to cancel the stay and get the refund but was denied and offered the different bramch which was in business park 30 mins away from city center. We paid the price for city center as all the attractions were near by from there, and had to stay 30 mins away from the city center. Rooms are out of standards as very small open wardrobe are in the room which is not adequate for long stay. Carpets are worn out, rooms are in need of paint. Staff tried to makeup by offering us complimentary breakfast. Which is generous of them but doesnt make up for the price what we paid. We nearly paid £1000.00 for those rooms. Also at breakfast whete it says breakfast is served between 7 to 11. If you walk in at 10.45 they will start clearing buffet at 11 even if you are eating..thank god it was complimentary. If you pay for it make sure you go there early. When we were transffered to a different hotel again we were given standard rooms again had to change the rooms. The house keeping lady serviced the room and did not give us enough milk water bottles. Upon request we were charged for it. Due to Poor communication our stay was ruined. We will never book the Novotel again in any part of the world. Staff are very helpful and nice.

Myself and partner booked a break as a Christmas present to beautiful city of Edinburgh. We found the hotel to be clean and well equipped even though the spa was being refurbished and we were not informed the staff did upgrade us which was excellent. We though it would be easy to eat that night in the hotel restaurant...we should not have bothered.. it was all style no substance..food arrived in less than 5 minutes..chicken barely cooked and a pasta carbonara that the Italian staff should be ashamed off. Disappointed and sad start to first night of holiday, staff should spend less time chatting and more time preparing food correctly...

Super modern hotel in central Edinburgh, with the most comfortable bed - the sensation of slightly sinking in a soft duvet. The reception area was slickly designed, leading into a lounge area with coffee table with touch-screen games selection. Beautiful executive room in shades of grey with a wall to wall panorama photo of the western isles, it featured a proper desk, sofa, wide screen TV, generous bench to leave your luggage, coffee machine, separate loo and discreet lighting.
At times it felt "over-designed" - the impractical sink which you couldn't plug or balance the soap on, for example, and breakfast, though decent, felt a little chaotic.
Overall very good though
Note: the spa area is closed for refurb to late January

Showed up at 4 p.m. on a Saturday and managed to get a Superior room for a very reasonable rate with a castle view!. Immaculate room and bath, helpful staff and slept like the dead in the comfortable bed. Will definitely be back.
