What People are saying

Far out - and that's not a hippy reference!

murfeex on 24/10/2017 14:25

As we were only in Jersey for two nights we didn't hire a car, which we came to regret. Although the hotel is on a bus route, the bus only runs every 2 hours and the last bus leaves the bus station at 7.15pm. This wasn't much good if we wanted to eat in St Helier in the evening. Luckily the hotel has a 'pub' next door and they have an extensive evening menu. We ended up eating here both evenings.

The hotel needs bringing up to date, the decoration is very dated. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was clean and the rooms serviced every day. Breakfast was served in their dining room. The menu was varied, including kippers, kedgeree and full English.

For our next trip to Jersey we will look for a hotel closer to St Helier.

Pleasant weekend break at Oaklands.

Pleasant 3 night break in Jersey at the Oaklands. We chose this hotel primarily for location, price and parking.

(1) Check in/out was friendly fast and efficient.

(2) The bedroom was a reasonable size and was clean. The TV had a decent selection of stations but it was small in size. We had a double bed but it was actually two single beds pushed together. The mattresses were uncomfortable and we both struggled to sleep properly.
The bathroom was clean and functional with plenty of hot water. There is no A/C in the bedrooms. A fan was supplied.
The Wi-Fi upstairs was OK for the most part.
We found the room too warm and opened the window to let in air each day.
The walls are thin and we could hear someone in the adjacent room "snoring for England". We could also hear them talking from time to time.
There is no lift so be prepared to carry your suitcase up the short stairs.

(3) Breakfast was served between 8 and 9am. We missed out on breakfast on day 1 as I thought it ran until 10am (my mistake). I feel that 7-10 is pretty standard these days? It's waiter service from a menu - no self service. Everything is cooked to order. It was a good breakfast and was served on hot plates,

(4) Staff - we found the staff pleasant and polite at all times.

(5) We ate with friends in the bar/lounge on the first night. Everyone enjoyed their meal and it was reasonably priced.

Overall we had a pleasant stay and the hotel served our needs on this occasion.

Very Good ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This restaurant serves lovely quality food, also offering hotel accommodation.
There are 10 rooms, they are upstairs on the first floor. There is no lift so not really suitable for disabled or young families with push chairs.
We stayed for 3 nights, and we booked 2 rooms. The rooms are Spacious and clean, the bathrooms offer showers, bath and accessories include hairdryer.
A kettle is provided and tea and coffee was plentiful. We stayed Bed and Breakfast, and the food was delicious. Quality products, cooked very nicely. We enjoyed Cereal, juice, coffee, toast and full English every morning.
There is a nice size secure Carpark offering easy access to the front or rear of the building.
The Restaurant/Hotel itself is Centrally located. It was an ideal base for us to travel the island in our Hire Car.
The hotels website has pictures of the rooms, these pictures are very good representations of what you will get on your stay.
Maid service was daily, and we received very high standard.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we would definitely stay here again.
Staff - lovely. Hotel - nice/homely. Food - Fabulous. Location - Good (need car) Value for Money - Exceptional.

One Week Stay

David W on 08/07/2017 19:12

With not visiting the island for over 30 years we decided to have a one week holiday on the island which has changed a lot since our last visit. We chose the “Oakland’s Lodge Hotel” for our accommodation for our stay with breakfast included with our tariff which is located about 2-3 miles from St Helier. There was plenty of parking spaces available during our stay with an area to the rear signed for residents parking. Our room was located on the 1st floor and was very comfortable and managed a good night’s sleep each night. The en-suite was well equipped with a bath/shower, wash basin with loads of space in the bathroom cabinet (unlike some accommodation we’ve stopped in) for toothbrushes, shaving items etc. The breakfast was served between 8 & 9am Monday to Friday and 8 & 9:30am Saturday and Sunday. The breakfast offered a choice of tea or coffee, a choice of fruit juices or cereal, a selection of things like bacon, sausage, egg, baked beans, tomato, kippers etc. with toast and a choice of white or brown bread. There is no lift to access the 1st floor bedrooms although only two short flights of stairs is worth taking into account for anyone with a large amount of heavy luggage. The free Wi-Fi in the room was very patchy although downstairs in public areas it was excellent.

Comfortable.

A notice at the unattended reception directed us to bar. There were 4 or 5 customers drinking there but no-one behind the bar. We looked around and waited. Eventually one of the customers looked up from his phone and asked what we wanted despite we had arrived at the time we had indicated on our booking. He turned out be the receptionist and our waiter at breakfast. He gave us our key and directions to the room by rote. It was definitely nul point for a welcome.

The bedroom was generously sized, comfortable and clean.  The bathroom was good too.

There was heat wave in Jersey at the time (>30°C) and the hotel bedroom was like an oven as there is no A/C in the bedrooms. A fan was supplied which helped.

The wi-fi upstairs was clunky to connect to though it was OK for the most part once we realised the repeater access point was in the corridor opposite our room. There was an "internet room and lounge" upstairs but it was inactive.

Breakfast was served between 8 and 9am. It's waiter service from a menu - no self service or food from a trough - with everything cooked to order.  It was a very good breakfast, and the very hot plates were a bonus.

The hotel complex is quite large but it seemed empty. We saw 10 people for breakfast in a dining room for a hundred.

The hotel was very clean and orderly but the style and décor are from the 80s with a few upgrades and mods where regs and repairs demanded.

Apart from the shortcomings of our check in and the retro ambience, our stay was good.
