A nice hotel nearby Fort Rotterdam on walking distance. When you arrive you will think mmm the first view is not so nice but when you walk in to the garden towarts the reception the mmm will be that's nice. Nice rooms a nice view in the morning at breakfast. And nice people.
An optional choice for a beach view lover.

It is quite a nice place to stay since the view ahead is a peaceful beach and a row of wonderful islets. Yet, the rooms are not quite comfortable especially if you rent a connected ones. The hotel doesn't provide a good room silencer.
careful on what room you choose

As we checked in we got a room in the main building that really needed serious maintenance. It felt that the room had been left there since the 80's untouched. So after reading some of the reviews we upgraded to the bungalows facing the water, and that is why I give it 3 stars and not 1.
Dated hotel in desperate need of a complete make-over

Nobody staying in any of the main building's standard rooms would return.
Location
- located next to the port area
- at the extreme north-west corner of Makassar's central "old" shopping area
Reception
- the always friendly Indonesian staff are here too
- no problem with the reservation, porter
- tiny iced Welcome drink
- no early check-in allowed to the obviously empty hotel
- clearly daily recycling of just 10 decrepid ground-floor main-building rooms
Rooms
- spaceous, with king-sized bed, two chairs with table
- non-potable cold water at sink, two 600ml bottles of water provided
- scalding-hot bath water, be careful, truly dangerous for children
- toiletries provided, even a comb
- kettle and coffee/tea/sugar/creamer packets
My first room
- no water after second use of toilet, can't be resolved
- required to move rooms without assistance
My second room (see photos)
- equally decrepit room had no hand-soap bar, two requests resolved this
- got mosquito bites during afternoon snooze, requested room-spray while out (which worked)
- a/c did not work well enough and anyway shut itself off during the night, sweated-out the night
- 1980's room furniture in very tatty condition, complete with cigarette burns on the bedside tables
- ancient cathode ray-tube, almost surprised to see it was colour
- half of TV channels were so badly tuned, they were unwatchable
- poor housekeeping, with hairs visible on side-table and bathroom floor
- a dead insect and dried rodent feces on the kettle table
Sea Front Cottages
- perhaps a dozen wooden double cabin buildings over the water
- dark, dingy and weathered looking, all shuttered-up, but look equally run-down from the outside
Swimming Pool
- looks OK but, based on the rest, I would not use it
I would never return and you should not go!
Surprising hotel.

On my first night ( and my last night) in the Sulawesi, I stayed in the Pantai Gapura Hotel in Makassar. It is composed off wooden cottages, and the terras is with his feet on pillars in the see. I had a harbourvieuw cottage, and that can be very noisy on working days, because there is a building site a few meters from it. I was there in the ramadan , and the second time on Idul Fitri , from that side I didn't had any noise.
I enjoyed the sunsetting from my terrace.
The cottages suffer a little bit from the water; the television works only a little bit.
The breakfast is served with a vieuw on the see. There is fresh fruit, and everyhting you want (except for yoghurt, but that is nowhere available on Sulawesi)
There is a swimming pool, and you can have a swim there with the card they give you.
