We were visiting Peniscola with our 2 grown children and booked a themed suite and a regular suite...Both suites were roomy but the furniture was âtiredâ and dated...The hotel was clean but it is apparent that a bit of TLC is needed...For folks from the US we need to curb our expectations...This is not a Marriott and/or Hilton...However, the location was good and beach and promenade were within easy reach...While in visiting Peniscola you have to also visit Morella...What a fantastic mountain town! Overall, Peniscola is well worth a visit and we recommend spending time in this lovely village!

My Partner and I spend 5 days at the Hotel for Christmas Period it was Lovley Hotel very large also Bathrooms staff very polite and friendly we had 2 Gala Dinners Christmas Eve and Christmas Day plenty food and drink our only critisism was we didnt find the food very hot but like said plenty of it Also Hotel is in Beautiful setting right next to Beach we would return.

We stayed here for 2 nights on half board basis. Hotel is fabulous in good position in relation to the beach/sea but some distance from Peniscola. We are walkers though so not problem for us. Our room was lovely and spacious, overlooking the pool and with sea view. Spacious bathroom, bath and also separate shower. It does have a Spa area but at no time did anyone tell us when we arrived that the Spa was closed until we enquired later. It did turn out that we were told incorrectly it was closed - it was just the indoor pool that was closed until Thursday - Spa facilities were still available, by which time it was too late for us to use facilities. We ate in the Peniscola buffet restaurant for breakfast and evening meal. Very disappointing food. Choice of bread/croissants and cake were good. Very little fruit available - bacon looked undercooked /anaemic, eggs unappetising. Food wasn't hot enough at breakfast or evening. At 8pm, when evening meal started we tried the chips but they were cold, some food tasted like it had been reheated from day before ( same choice of food was there 2 nights running). I had some pasta with tomato sauce cooked by chef - it could have been out of a tin how bland it tasted. Only need to add peppers, onion and garlic to improve the sauce no end! Entertainment was geared to Spanish older generation - line dancing etc.

We had excellent accomodation in a suite wih comfortable bed and shower and bath. The reception staff were efficient and helpful and bar service was very good. Overall it was a good base for a week in Peniscola as there is an excellent local bus service from right outside the hotel to Peniscola in one direction and Benicalo in the other at â¬1.50 per trip. We used the car for longer trips and the train from Benicalo to Valencia for a trouble free visit. There is free parking at the station.
We probably would have rated the hotel as excellent earlier in the year. However we visited in late October when some of the facilities were restricted. The main swimming pool was clised (it was still warm enough to go in the sea- a little bracing). Although the buffet bar was reasonable and varied, the thematic restaurants were closed or with a restrcted / composite a la carte menu- the Italian restaurant provided one cod dish and four pizzas as a somewhat underwhelming main course. There are no restaurants open near the hotel; we used the bus to eat in Penoscola where there are good restaurants principally open for lunch at this season.

Be clear, this is a family hotel, vacation complex. If you are couple or looking for a romantic weekend or summer vacation for a couple, head to Ibiza, not Plaza Suites. Expect young families, and lots of kids staying with ground parents. Installations: excellent. Cleanliness: very good. Buffet food: very good. Great value for money. We are not big drinkers but we recommend the All Included package. For a family of 5 it's great to get coffee, water, ices and the occasional beer, wine or liquer whenever you feel like it. Beware of extras for parking at 11 euro a day, gym at 12 euros for 6 hours use and a supplement on some alcoholic drinks such as mojitos and Irish coffees. The suites sleep 4 comfortably. This is our 3rd trip back to Plaza Suites in 4 years. The hotels biggest asset is their staff. Great people. All the reception speak English. Bar and restaurant staff try their best. The thematic restaurants are good option to buffet dining. Thanks to Plaza Suites staff Esmerelda, Antonio, Raquel, Alan, Freddy, Clinton, Laura, Lola, Daniel, Jose, Santiago and all the team for making our stay so good. We highly recommend Plaza Suites.
