A good place in a good location

I find it really easy to begin an extended stay in Ghana by using the Pink Hostel in Accra. Over the last 3 years their ability to serve me respectfully has been so valuable amidst the chaos of Africa. The staff knows how it feels for Westerners acclimating to this country of great people. And there's a great shop a short walk away from Pink Hostel in Asylum Down in Accra that sells everything Ghana-made at excellent prices. Ask at the hostel reception how to go past the banks and ATMs and across the street from the Nima police station where you'll find Tindana's shop.
In front of it there's a lady selling simm cards from all the mobile phone companies who'll set up your phone for you.
I highly recommend this budget hostel.
Beginning Africa

Africa! Your first visit starts here.
Arriving in Accra, a good choice for acclimating to the surroundings is the Pink Hostel. Whether a dorm room or a single or double room, you'll sleep well and be off to a good start.
In Africa, Ghana is probably the safest country to visit. Not perfect - and pedestrians aren't respected like most countries in the west treat you - but once you meet people and talk with them for awhile you'll feel the openness. Find a way to be part of the life here.
The heat is challenging and an air conditioned bus or room to sleep in is important for staying comfortable. Unless you stay at an expensive hotel you won't be comfortable - an exception is the Pink Hostel. The price is decent. It's located very close to the VIP bus station for long trips on very good buses. If you make arrangements with Pink Hostel and verify them you'll see a taxi driver standing with your name on a sign, right outside the airport when you first arrive. Write down phone numbers for Pink Hostel to be relaxed about it. I've borrowed a phone when I was too tired to set up a simm card when I couldn't see the driver.
I've stayed here a few times and they constantly improve it. You'll get a basic small breakfast, although you can order a large meal. Very comfortable bed. Make sure you know how to use the remote that adjusts the air conditioner.
Banks are nearby for using ATMs.
Take out a bunch of cedis because Accra is more expensive than you might expect.
Good Luck!
Nice people awful rooms

I only stayed here as it was part of the program I'd signed up for to volunteer with in Ghana.
As it's hot in Ghana, you probably won't mind that there is no hot water with the showers, and only by dousing yourself with the provided small buckets will you have enough water pressure for a shower.
The dorm rooms are probably a decent value, but the tiny single rooms are not a good deal. The location is ok, central to all the various areas of Accra. However, of you want to be near the beach or the Oso area, this is a poor choice.
And lastly, the staff is super nice.
Excellent service, will definitely come back

Service was more than you could expect of a hostel. Luggage was lost at a transit, and did not arrive with the next flight, like the flight company had promised. I had appointments at other locations, so could not stay any longer than one night in Accra. When I told this to the staff, they offered to collect the luggage for me and send it to my place in Cape Coast (as the flight company was not willing to do this). Received my luggage two days later from a Pink hostel driver!
Further, the room was clean, and everything worked properly (airconditioning, electricity/charging sockets, sanitational, doors can be locked). Breakfast included, and the restaurant is affordable and proper. Friendly staff.
The surrounding area is quiet, eventhough central in Accra.
I will definitely come back if I'm in need of a proper place to stay in Accra, as I had a better experience here than many of the more expensive hotels in Ghana. Can't think of any negative points. High recommendation.
Pretty disappointing

Located was ok. Close enough to the main spots. But found the place pretty disappointing. Showers had almost no water so had to use a bucket. I'm ok with that normally but $20 for a dorm room you expect more. Breakfast was bread and fried potatoes. Did the job but nothing exciting. The staff weren't very friendly at all. They didn't tell me I needed to return the key. So after heading out for an evening returned back to find the door to my dorm kicked in and all of my stuff moved to another dorm. Instead of waiting until I returned they decided breaking the door made more sense. Wifi didn't work in the rooms but they didn't have any space to chill out. Very overpriced and not welcoming at all. I wouldn't recommend it.
