Stayed here last October (2nd or 3rd week) in the main building
First of all the food was really good! Rooms are basic and a bit traditional if you're into that. Staff are always happy to help and not overbearing which is really nice.
The thing that we really liked was how quiet the hotel was
It made our stay much more relaxing and our sleep awesome!

Stayed here for a week in mid September and it was really great.
The room was regularly cleaned and towels replenished, beds made etc. The staff were really friendly and always helpful, though I would recommend learning a bit of basic Spanish before going as this is not in a tourist-y part which I thought was a great thing personally as you get the traditional Spanish experience.
It is situated in the beautiful picturesque village of Maro, just outside of Nerja and it is only a five minute walk down the road to the bus stop which goes into Nerja and is a 10 minute journey.
The food was surprisingly good for a 3 star hotel and was restaurant quality, as I think that the adjoining restaurant where you eat is actually a place that the locals frequent.
The room has good air con for those hot days and comfy beds.
The breakfast is a selection of toast, croissants, cereal, juice, tea and coffee and fresh fruit and though nothing spectacular, for someone who doesn't eat lots for breakfast, this was just what was needed.
Overall, I would definitely recommend it and will definitely stay here again one day as I fell in love with the village of Maro.

We stayed at Playamaro for 10 days,its a clean, friendly three star facility, serviced every day, air con, spacious and with helpful staff. Food in restaurant very good also.
Whilst the town has many hotels/apts/accommodation it is situated amongst local spanish families all very friendly, this provides a good insight Into local spanish life. Watch out for the daily piggy walkabout around 6pm each day, all will be revealed ! Maro is close to Nerja, 5 mins by car, which is a very nice town buzzing with holiday makers, there are also quite a selection of dining options. Beautiful weather in e o August, b o Sept.

My partner and I stayed at the Hotel Playamaro for 2 weeks from 3rd of August until 17th. Hotel Playamaro is in a small town outside of Nerja, however Nerja is accessed easily via taxi (around 10 euro) or bus (bus stop is located 5 minute walk from hotel and cost around 1 euro 16)
We arrived at 10:30pm and was greeted by hotel staff member Miguel, he presented us with our dinner which they kept aside for us to eat in our room. To our enjoyment of seeing this, after traveling and eating small snacks only, we were hungry!
The room was perfect, basic and a good size with a large balcony and small kitchen. The rooms have air conditioning and a television - yes the tv is in in Spanish however is you find a channel showing and English speaking programme - click audio and change it to English (simple!) The room met our needs as we didn't plan to spend much time in it and it was cleaned every day with fresh towels provided.
The area of Maro is small - still very local with limited English being spoken in shops and restaurants - however don't let this put you off, as two Glaswegians we did perfectly fine communicating with the locals through a lot of pointing and limited Spanish/English (and head nods...lol) Hotel Playamaro provides a fantastic menu with food that is cooked perfectly and displayed with thought - prices are very reasonable, both of us having lunch there - usually a large salad and pizza along with a portion of fries, 2 drinks and a bottle of water, cost us around 24 euros - well worth it as portion size was great and food was fresh.
Maro has its own beaches, worth a visit with the crystal blue waters and opportunities to Kayak around the area - The only con of visiting the beaches is the climb down and up the hill - however taking appropriate footwear will support you in this walk. One beach was equipped with all the essentials (toilets, restaurants and sun loungers) The restaurant was a bit pricey and the sun loungers were 5 euros 8 each for the whole day. The other beach simply had the sand and sea with a small hut selling alcohol and drinks. Take your pick as both are equally beautiful - both can be accessed via the main road to the beach and are sign posted clearly.
The nightlife is quieter in Maro with a lot of resturants staying open until around 12/1 oclock - therefor if you want a proper night out in to the early hours, travel in to Nerja. Maro is easy to navigate through, not having many resturants and bars it is easy to find them - often offering live music at the weekend.
Playamaro was perfect for us, accessing the pool on the roof was easy and there was never a rush to grab sun loungers. We had the most relaxing time here and the best experience with staff. Miguel who is based in the restaurant was an excellent feature to the hotel and other staff members did their best to cater to your needs.
At first we were dubious as there was a few negative reviews however glad we took the chance and had the best experience - happy to return!

The moment we stepped in to this hotel we were greeted with a friendly smile and that continued throughout our stay. Our room was in the main hotel and had a sitting room, bedroom and en suite, with a Juliet balcony in both bedroom and sitting room, the room was cleaned every day to a high standard, plenty of towels.When I seen the beds I thought it was going to be un-comfy but I was wrong the bed was very comfortable I had a good night's sleep every night aided by the air-con.
The food in the hotel was good and good value as were the drinks. The town itself is quiet and has a few bars and a couple of restaurants, but it is only minutes in the bus from Nerja which is one of the nicest places I've been. I would return to this Hotel again it is very relaxing and the pool area is quiet and has beautiful views of the sea and mountains behind.. try the other restaurants especially La Entrada.
