Protea is always a great experience that never disappoints. The rooms are spacious and warm, with a cosy homely set up. The facility opens to lovely greenery and outdoor. Tasty Meals, Hospitable Staff and Super Fast Wifi.

I visted this place to meet one of our Business client. You will feel awesome breeze in this Hotel. At Protea, parking place is very huge. Good place for large get together. They good good swimming pool near the resturant. Good thing is this is at Dar es Salaam town

The worst part of this hotel is what you experience first: a rather unappealing reception area. I am sure that you are thinking that's ridiculous, but one can use a better first impression. I arrived late at night and was received by a relatively tired staff in a hostelling-international-esque reception area: disheveled paperwork on a cluttered desk. Apparently, there was an issue between my reservation and what showed up on the computer. Then the receptionist asked me to pay the bill for my 3-night stay in advance. I have no problem with paying in advance, but I have only been asked that at a $10/night youth hostel in Timbuktu!
That was probably the harshest comments I could make about Protea Oysterbay because everything after that was, I have to admit, surprisingly pleasant and satisfying. Let's start with the wifi. This place has one of the best wifi service I have ever experienced. It might not be an issue for you, but I am usually irked by how most hotels I have stayed would have at least 4 different networks (hotel_room1, reception_connect, space_lounge_free1, walking_to_the_bar_wifi, etc). You have to reconnect to another wifi signal every 10 meters. Protea Oysterbay had ONE wifi signal and it worked perfectly everywhere. If they just improve how you access it (you are given username and password on a piece of paper), it would be the best wifi.
I am not sure if all the rooms are like that, but the one I got was pretty spacious. I didn't quite expect it, but the upstairs loft bed was pretty cool. It was like a whole apartment for myself. The "living room" was quite nice: TV, couch, chairs, table. The bathroom was good too and so was the comfortable bed. The only thing I didn't like (or maybe I just didn't know how to operate them!) were the light switches. Somehow I had to control upstairs lights from downstairs. Before I went to sleep, I would have to walk down switch of the 'bedroom' light and walk up the stairs in darkness.
The rest of it was quite good. Service was mostly great, the ambiance was fantastic, the quietness incredible, breakfast was fantastic, and cleanliness great. Overall, quite satisfying experience.

Protea Oyster Bay has many features that make it fun and a great place to stay. First, they offer free bicycles which are fun to tour around on. Check it out at reception. Second, the dala dala Mbuyuni stop is a scenic 10minute walk away. The daladala will easily take you to downtown dar (posta) or the Village Museum (makumbusho/M'busho) for 500tsh and it's part of the local fabric to experience. for sure not for everybody, but should be experienced. Third, CocoBeach is a 10 minute bike ride or 20 minute scenic walk. ride your bike up to one of the local restaurants bring 1000-2000 tsh w you and buy something small (cassava or soft drink) and then they will guard the bike and ur other stuff and junk. Finally, when i made the transfer to zanzibar (protea mbweni ruins also highly recommended) the hotel staff proactively called the zanzibar people to let them know i was coming, it was a big help and the staff here is just like that, very helpful and friendly, they're great. So much to like about Protea OysterBay Hotel. I like it so much this is my third time here in the last year.

Pleasant ambience, friendly staff and perfect venue to stay. Had quality time in hotel. Rooms are quite spacious, spick and span. Good food and morning buffet was superb just loved it. prompt service, Thanks guys keep it up.
