Fawlty towers comes to Wellington
Scottandeli on 25/01/2018 02:30
I often travel to Wellington for business, and have only ever given positive feedback of the sites, attractions and eateries I have reviewed.
Up until now that is. A number of colleagues and myself were put at The Quest. Sadly, this was not a touch on other Quests I have been a guest at around NZ.
The weather in Wellington was stunning for my week long stay, unfortunately the rooms at this dated guesthouse were not fitted with AC, but they did have windows. Which would have made the sauna like living quarters marginally bearable should the noise from surrounding buildings air condintioning condenser units on their roofs blasting away 24/7... I was above the roofs of surrounding buildings so had to close my windows and put up with sleeping in soaking sweat ridden sheets every night.
The parking arrangements were ridiculous also. You park in a car park 5 minutes walk away and they give you a ticket to get in and out. We parked our vehicle in the park, checked in and took our ticket. The next morning when we left to head to work the ticket would not lift the barrier arm. 36bucks later and we were on our way to work. I ring reception later that day once the deck was manned, as it isnât manned 24/7 and they told me the ticket they gave me needed to be used to get in in order to use it to get out. Wow! That wouldâve been real handy to know before entering park. Given they have no parking and I had a car, someone meeting us at park with ticket to enter may have been a nice customer friendly thing to do.
Last but not least, I left my door key at work 25mins away from the quest. I pushed the afterhours number on the intercom to try and get myself a temporary key until next day when I couldâve got mine back. I explained it to the afterhours operator who then conveniently got cut off and when I tried to reconnect blatantly refused to answer any of my callbacks... 1hr round trip back to work got me back in...
Cleanliness is average, the decor is dated. The only thing this faulty towers candidate has going for it is location... Not enough sadly.
The upshot of my 2nd bad TripAdvisor review is donât go this place if you have other choices. It will sour your trip to a very nice city!
A not comfortable summer stay

I checked in on 24 January 2018 for a one night stay. The room I was given is facing west. It is now 6pm and the sunlight comes into the room in full brightness. I was told there is no airconditioning so I have to open the windows but close the curtains and also the mini terrace door. My room is facing the main motorway so it is noisy.
I can't shut the windows, it is hot and noisy. Oh boy how can i sleep tonight
Tired apartments

If location is what you want then these apartments are perfect! However it goes down hill from there.
The building is beautiful and has a real art deco feel. The inside actually reminded me of the hotel from American Horror story.
The lobby smelt of wet damp the whole stay. And you are offered limited wifi. The reception desk is not manned all the time and not at all on the weekends. We requested a Fan as there was no air conditioning however it never arrived.
The bed were fine however the whole room just looked tired.
A shame

We were told that libby close at 17h00. We arrived at 16h40. All doors closed and a another client waiting since 15 min !!! We called the âlate arrival numberâ a lady told to open the door ... 25 min later and 3 more calls : nothing !!!
Hopefully a couple ( customers) came back early from dinner and we managed to get in !!! An envelop was waiting for us with a key. When booking it was indicated that parking ( to be paid) available .... the parking recommended by the hotel is charging 4 NZD every 30 min ....
Inside the room the toilet was not working but no way to reach any body !!! To avoid mis understanding we were NOT there during a public day off. In my entire life never seen such shame. I wonder what happen if one customer forget his key in his room. No way / impossible to reach any body who respond. Unacceptable.
Bad management

We paid for a room with an extra toilet which wasn't working. Notified reception to be told plumber couldn't come till next morning. No good when we would be leaving then. Asked to be compensated as we specifically wanted a room with 2 toilets but management would not compensate in any way at all. All reflexes back to bad manager and not good customer service. Definitely won't stay there again.
