What People are saying

Very welcoming and accommodating

Carol B on 03/01/2018 12:43

We stayed for 3 nights over New Year, everyone at the hotel were so friendly and extremely accommodating - nothing was too much for them. Our room was totally amazing with oak panels a fireplace and a locked door that probably led to a priest hole.

There is a lounge room on the first floor available to everyone which is totally amazing.

Restaurant, food and bar - again brilliant.

I can not recommend this hotel enough,

I also stayed for a week in August - again nothing was too much for them.

Totally brilliant.

New year break with family and friends

We stayed for three nights with family and friends over New Years. The hotel was very comfortable and the staff were very helpful and polite throughout our stay and could not do enough for us. We stayed in a garden room which was warm and comfortable and I can imagine would be even better during the summer months.
I would like to thank the staff for all their attention and curtesy during our stay.

Wonderful new year

Had a fantastic stay over new year, the staff are superb and cant do enough for you, the food is excellent and the hotel full of character

Presteigne is a lovely town too and great for exploring

Thank you all very much and see you next year

Slightly off the main road but well worth the detour

What a lovely surprise to find a hotel with such original splendor and in such good decor.
As we were travelling with a pet we were very limited to Hotels and had to travel well out of our way to stay here. It was worth the detour! the staff were very very obliging and also made sure dog was comfortable. We stayed in one of the lodges which was superb with the dog as it was easy to let her in and out. The lodge was large, newly decorated and even had a jacuzzi bath ( for us - not the dog).
The bar was delightfully quaint and food excellent along with selection of beers etc.
Breakfast was another lovely surprise having been cooked from local produce.
Huge thanks to all the staff and look forward to seeing you soon.

Quaint village pub and hotel, full of character (and characters!)

I travel a lot with work so booking hotels is now becoming a second job. Doing the work I do takes me many places, and one of these places was Knighton in Powys. Having never stayed in the area before I did a local search of hotels and found the Radnorshire Arms. I'm a huge fan of older buildings and this one dates back hundreds of years so it ticked that box for me. Reading a bit more I found it had a good beer selection, including a local Valley ale, and a large selection of spirits to go with them - most importantly some Welsh whiskies and a Welsh gin. Game on!

Finding the hotel was easy enough. The hotel is located directly on the high street so you can't help but drive past it. Parking at the front is scarce however across the road is a graveled area with an entrance and an exit, where you can park up happily and as a bonus it's off the main road too. Straight across the road from the car park is the hotel entrance up a small set of stairs. The reception area is old but in a lovely way. Very quaint. To the right of that, there's the bar which is basically a wood paneller's dream! Further down is the restaurant seating and the stairs to the non-garden hotel rooms. Right down the back of the corridor is the large door leading to a beautiful covered path through the garden area (more stairs) and all of the garden lodges.

Check in:

I was, on my first visit, checked in by Helen - who is a lovely young lady that can't do enough to help. She took me up the stairs and opened my room door (my first visit I had an indoor room, more below...) and showed me in to the room. Check in process was quick and simple, and Helen was the perfect host. Happy so far, no issues at all on check in, and to go the extra mile as I was relatively late showing up Helen had actually called me to make sure I was OK, still coming, and did I need something to be made up by the chef for when I got here in case he'd left!

The room:

I had room 6, if I remember correctly, which was really nicely laid out. Very comfy bed and an ample sized bathroom. My only niggle - and this isn't down to the hotel - is the beam in the shower. I'm really quite tall and this bothered me a few times whilst showering. For the average sized guest though it shouldn't/won't be an issue. The TV was a good size and reception was sufficient considering the location in the valley. Plenty of tea/coffee and milk which is always nice after a long drive. However I was a touch peckish to say the least so down to the bar I headed:

Bar/Food:

I've not eaten in the restaurant but if the food in the bar is anything to go by, there's not a thing to worry about. The bar menu is as one would expect, with an array of sandwiches, some pie and veg offers, steaks, and on a Sunday there's a roast served (which I had on a separate visit and loved). Nice list of desserts too.
I'm a boring soul at heart so ordered soup and a sandwich - which was outside the normal service times but the chef accommodated me very kindly. Soup was epic, tasted really good and was hot throughout. Sandwich was served and presented perfectly with a little side salad to accompany. Top notch grub. I didn't drink any alcohol this particular night but the orange and lemonade was pretty good. No complaints. Spent the evening talking with the staff, and on that note a very special mention to Hannah M. Hannah filled me in on the local area, history of the site and the hotel itself - which is apparently older than the date above the front door would have you believe, but the date shown is approximately the time dates were recorded for buildings. The hotel was also once home to a priest hole, and one day maybe I'll find it! Hannah is very knowledgeable and personable, and is happy to talk to the hotel and bar clients no matter how many beers (or gins...) they may have partaken in. Patience of a saint, that girl!

The staff:

All of the staff I've spoken to at the Radnorshire Arms have been fantastic, very friendly and attentive. Absolutely no complaints at all. I'd give this place a 10 just for them.

I've since returned to the hotel and have had the pleasure of one of the lodge rooms. They're outside so with the heating off are lovely and cool, and they also seem to have a jacuzzi bath, which was a lovely experience on one of the nights after a particularly long day. With that in mind, I can recommend both the indoor and outside rooms. Both have great amenities, lovely beds and well laid out bathrooms. The outside ones have no beams over the shower which means I'm able to shower unobstructed. Again this is a personal thing, and not a criticism of the hotel. We are all different shapes and sizes!

There are some vintage rallies hosted nearby and the hotel gets very busy on these times. Some nice cars to be seen.

There's a fireplace in the bar, which hopefully as it gets colder will be lit and be able to be enjoyed by those of us for whom disposing of rubbish, plastics, etc is not a priority.

I'd definitely recommend this hotel if you're ever in the area. It's been marked on my list of ones to return to, both for work and or pleasure.
