Stayed at the Renaissance Hotel for three nights and had a fantastic time. Things got off to a great start when we arrived before midday from the airport and found out that our room was ready for us at that point.
All staff we interacted with did everything with a smile - reception team, bar staff, housekeeping. All so pleasant. The location off Passeig de Gracia means that you're only 3 minutes walk from the Metro, 10 minutes walk from La Ramba and 15 minutes walk from La Sagrada Familia.
The one comment I'd make is that we were going to be charged extra for the WiFi when we attempted to log in. We didn't do so, but thought that free WiFi would be a given and included in the hotel rate.

Weâve stayed at multiple Renaissance hotels around the world - we wonât be coming back to this one.
Pros: good location
Cons:
- Uneven treatment: (1) when other guests walk into the hotel, they are greeted with a smile. When my partner and I come in, the security guards stare at us and make sure we actually have a room key card. (2) the other guests are proactively served during
the bfast buffet. My partner and I havenât even been told that there is a menu to order from and itâs now day 3. Weâve only figured it out by overhearing and seeing what other guests are served.
The difference is stark and makes us feel uncomfortable to even come into the hotel. My partner and I are an interracial couple that donât look like most guests - we travel a lot and for the most part donât encounter issues but every once in a while are made to feel like we donât belong. We studied abroad in Barcelona (and lived just around the corner) so know the area and issues well but figured it would be different at a Renaissance hotel.
- Poor elite recognition: Iâm platinum and definitely understand that upgrades are based on availability. When we checked in, we were told we were âupgradedâ to a higher floor. Same exact room which would have been fine but a simple search online shows executive rooms, suites and other rooms are available.
- Other shortcomings: (1) our key cards have stopped working on multiple occasions, (2) when we checked in, we werenât told about any of the facilities, amenities, or services (we werenât even told that we had bfast included until we asked ourselves).
To be clear - we LOVE Marriott and almost always choose to stay at their properties because we always have a consistently great experience. This Renaissance just doesnât meet their standards for a variety of reasons. There are A LOT of hotels in the same area - book elsewhere.

I took my family to Barcelona in December 2017 to watch a football match and enjoy the city. Our stay was nothing less than outstanding thanks to the hotel staff and their professional service. They were very attentive to all our requests and they made sure we had a great stay. Special thanks to Chris B. at the front office who went out of his way during our time there.

stayed here 2 nights in conjunction with a Viking ocean cruise. Booked through them as part of this trip we were mainly disappointed with the Viking end of things. Way over priced for what we received. Tour terrible they provided at end. Rooms via Viking way over priced. In future we will book on our own. Check in with hotel done expertly with Diana . She made a great first impression. She is a major asset for this hotel. Breakfast provided in the hotel package was 5star....absolutely fantastic. Nice dining area and staff. Our room was quiet and never any issues with that. The location of this hotel to popular destinations is also fantastic. Can walk to most. On the negative side, we felt the room could be a little cleaner and tidy. The size of the room and bath for what we paid was extremely small. We would stay here again, but for much , much lower price than what we paid.

Very helpful Reception and Breakfast staff. Comfortable and clean room. Great location, short walk to Metro Passeig de Gracia and Girona as well as easy walk to Gaudi's brilliant Casa Batllo and Palau de la Musica Catalonia, two "must sees" amongst many architectural highlights Barcelona has to offer.
