Some money needs to be spent here

This residence has a good location being close to 2 metro stations and with plenty of restaurants and a supermarket nearby. A short walk to the Marques de Pombal square will take you to the hop on hop off bus tours. It is a guesthouse in a quiet street but it is like going back to the 1960's inside. The staff were very nice and friendly but be aware you have to pay cash up front so be careful when budgeting your visit. I was on the first floor and as a woman did feel safe, I was given a massive book size key fob and two keys, one which opened the outer door to the corridor where the room was and one to the room. These were quite difficult to open as they were old locks. The room was spacious if sparse and heat was provided by a plug in heater, but it was adequate and there were extra blankets. It was very basic but adequate for the price paid 20 euros per night. No breakfast but plenty of options nearby. The stairs are are very uneven and could be dangerous, its almost like they have collapsed in the middle, there is no lift so ask for a room on the lower floors. It was ok but to say average would not be right in this case. Some investment and this could be a nice place to stay.

Lisbon's crappiest hostel/residencial

João O on 07/06/2017 23:44

Fotographs of pretty cosy bedrooms circulating on the internet are fake.

Most bedrooms are in very bad condition:1) cheap, old and broken furniture
2) rubbish stone hard spring mattresses
3) old bedding with spots
4) dirty rusty bathtubs and broken taps
5) cheap and dirty carpet covering broken floors
6) no ventilation
7) no security (very cheap and weak door- and windowlocks)
8) no Wi-Fi signal in every room (especially in those on the higher floors)

In fact, the whole hostel is in very bad condition. It's even mesmerizing that it has a valid permit. You just need to take a look at the cracking and totally disformed staircase, which can fall down at any moment. Furthermore, there's not an elevator and your bedroom may be on the 4th floor.

The service is also totally customer-unfriendly! If you ask the owner (the only man there) if it's possible to do something about the mattresses because you can't sleep on those old hard springs, he'll tell you he's never had a complaint about it, that the mattresses are totally fine and that the problem probably relies on you. He'll even 'advise' you to go to the urgences in the hospital so they can check your back because you might have injured yourself carrying the luggage through the staircase and that's probably the reason why you can't sleep... Let's also not forget he promotes everywhere that his bedrooms are equipped with waterbeds...

The only positive points about this hostel are its central location and its low prices.

But its low prices also turn out to be more negative than positive once they attract a lot of ordinary people who make a lot of noise, smoke in the corridors and also might break into your bedroom which has totally no security (no safe and very weack medieval doorlocks...).

Hope you read this before falling in his trap and booking just because it's cheap...

Remember, cheap might turn out to be the most expensive.

Loved this quaint hotel. The location is good as you are only about 150mtrs from a railway station and there is plenty of cafes closeby. There is also a supermarket across the road. The staff were extremely helpful and spoke good english. The room was very clean and when I asked for a room overlooking the street with a balcony they immediately switched me over without any extra fuss or charge. There is free internet in the community lounge at the rear of the hotel. Rooms were serviced daily, but there are no tea or coffee making facilites. Great shower and beds are comfy.
