Mer et Golf Biarritz

We have visited biarritz many times staying in hotels and at M&G. The hotels are expensive now and M&G affordable. The good thing about the site is that it is easily walkable to the town centre and to the beaches. There are shops nearby to buy breakfast. However avoid the period we went because of the biker rally. In the fist two weeks of June the town is full of several hundred bikes making it very noisy until 4am.
The apartments are good value with sufficient kitchen utensils and always clean. However today air conditioning and a free WiFi should be standard.
We probably won't stay there agin if we can find apartments at reasonable cost with the AC & WiFi but that may not be possible.

Hotel was located approx 15 mins from airport by taxi,Reception was nice and friendly.
Room for 3 of us has double sofa bed and 2 single up some very narrow dodgy stairs.
Basic small room but did our needs for 2 nights.
It did have cooker, dishwasher, microwave, fridge all cutlery etc.
Separate bathroom and toilet.
Nearest shop was approx 10 min walk.
Pool was nice and not cold with some decent views over the ocean.
A quick walk down the road just past the hotel car park to
Impasse de Marbella
you will find surf shack this place was really good for breakfast nice coffee and pastries.
All in all a pleasant stay needs updated decor wise though.
Great Location

Residence Mer &Golf Eugenie, is right beside the sea, there is a free bus which runs from outside into the center of Biarritz until about seven in the evening, but it is also near enough to walk if your going out in the evening. The rooms are airy with good wardrobe space, the swimming pool has great views !
It was very good value for money. Breakfast is available if required.
Biarritz itself is a beautiful place with little walkways out to rocks over the sea, it is a big surfing area with surf schools but you can hire a board and wetsuit cheaply, my daughter hired them for 14 euros for two hours,
The public transport is very reasonable, we paid 1 euro each to travel to Bayonne, and to Jean de Luz.
Plenty of restaurants with lots of choice.
Basic, clean, well situated, good value

This residence is basic in terms of facilities but clean and well located. There is no air conditioning although, on the Atlantic coast, we had a good breeze through the open windows most nights. The nearest shops for food basics are about 500 metres away. Biarritz town centre and good restaurants were a 15 to 20 minute walk away. The whole area is very pleasant - no riff raff.
There is a tennis court on site (very good condition) and a petanque (boule) court (not good condition) although we strolled in Biarritz and played petaque next to bars in public areas. There are two or three local beaches within easy walking distance which are very good. There is a strong surf on the sea which is why Biarritz is popular with surfers but less appropriate for small children to swim in the sea. There is a pool at the apartment for them although there was not very much shade for them. There was a squash club (Milady) nearby for my son (5 Eur for 45 minutes), beaches and town shopping (20 minutes walk) and sightseeing for wife and daughter, and a very comprehensive golf practice area (ilbarritz golf) for me (6 Eur a day and you can use your own balls for chipping practice on to proper greens, putting practice, bunker play practice also on to proper greens. There were also range facilities to buy buckets of balls (4 Eur each but you might need to buy a card for 20 Eur???) ). Overall location of the apartments was therefore excellent for our needs. We had a car so could travel around. It took approx. 10 hours driving from Calais to the apartments using motorways and without breaking speed limits. My son joined us later and paid £30 to fly Ryanair from Stansted to Biarritz airport! Overall holiday was very good and we would definitely go back to the same area and probably the same apartments. The only reason why we wouldn't is because there's a lot of world to see so we rarely visit the same place twice.
