We were originally booked at another hotel and cancelled at the last minute and booked at The Shikarbadi. We were so glad we did the minute we arrived. When you arrive on the property you feel like you are visiting a billionaire friend as you are led down a straight road lined with a horse stud farm on one side and cricket field on the other. In North America a room on a property like this would be several hundreds of dollars. The picture of all the deer is literally 15 meters from our hotel room door. Each day the hotel puts out corn so about 40 to 50 deer come down from the hills and enjoy supper around 4pm. There is also an abundance of other wildlife such as boars, peacocks and monkeys. The hotel was a private hunting lodge that was converted into a hotel and we were informed that the property used to belong to the King of Udaipur. It was nice to have a peaceful night as you are away from the noise of the city. We were in Jaipur before and there was incessant horn honking all night. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel and I will definitely return if I go back to Udaipur. The restaurant staff were also very attentive and took good care of us.

The good: The property is really huge, lots of natural beauty to walk around in - you can see horses at the attached stud farm, deer, peacocks and langurs in the wooded area. A nice pool to swim in (but a bit of inconvenient timings: 8 AM to 6 PM). They can arrange an in-room massage on call. The attached restaurant seems pretty nice but we didn't use it during our stay. The rooms very very nice, rustic looking cabins with good facilities. The property is very value-for-money, you will find few resorts with so many facilities for such a reasonable price (and a heritage hotel, no less)
The bad: The location is a bit of a problem, it is a bit out from the city. From the city palace to the property is around a 20-minute drive and approx 4-5 km. You will face problems if you wish to return to the hotel after dinner - it is a bit of a drive through a lonely dark road. Definitely not recommended for single ladies. The property itself is pretty safe though.
Would definitely recommend to others, especially for nature-loving folks who like forest walks or having a drink in the wilderness!

Hi. The rooms are worn out, the curtains not as clean and the wall interior scary. Even in winter I could spot lizards between the bricks of the room. What is good about this hotel is the ambience, the deers, the peacocks, the horses - everything just makes you forget about the side effects. Food at the restaurant was good (except a couple of things at the buffet breakfast). If one is planning a laid back holiday in Udaipur, other properties can be considered. For a hectic holiday where you would be out of the hotel most of the time during the day, this property is good enough. Staff was courteous and the campfire arrangement on a cold winter night was commendable.

This is a beautiful property to stay in.
Surrounded by low hillocks..one can see herons, cranes and deer in plenty and boars too.
The rooms are lovely..each one different in their colour scheme and therefore unique.
The service is great.. always with a smile.
The manager.. Abhishek Bhatnagar goes the extra mile to ensure your comfort.
We were there over New Year's Eve and the arrangements were great.
There was great folk music and dances followed by music for dancing.
Dinner was elaborate and nice.
Highly recommend this place.

Place as the name suggests gives u the feel too....beautiful property is a part of the city palace owners...the place has a royal touch to it in every aspect ! Being from a military background i felt a lot of regimental kind of touch to the place n njyd it ! Food is good! The rooms are fantastic tastefully done live th stone finish! The rooms face a small lake....beautiful ambience in every way ! If u r an animal lover u will find deers ,peacocks,langoors , horses n variety of other birds in this place ! We had the most amazing time !
