New year bonfire

delphwharf2 on 04/01/2018 21:45

Stayed here for the 2017/18 new year for two days. What a great find. We booked almost twelve months before and we've looked forward to it all year. Our room was large and very nicely decorated in keeping with the old building. Very clean with a very comfy bed. We had a great breakfast being served by very polite attentive staff. We ate here twice in the evening. The food was fabulous and came promptly. The waiting staff were very polite. Nothing was to much trouble. Very friendly and we will definitely be back. Thank you for a great new year.

Biggar Bonfire,a weekend to remember.

We were passing through Biggar Dec 2016 & were amazed by the huge bonfire stack in the village.I do love a bonfire so we decided to book the hotel for 2 nights to attend the bonfire the following year.We spent all year looking forward to it ,in October we adopted a rescue dog,Howi & I suddenly thought we would have to cancel our stay as we didn’t want to leave Howi with strangers.I rang the hotel & was over the moon to hear Howi could come with us.On arrival we were made very welcome, all the staff were friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is in a prime location in the centre of the village. It is very clean inside & out. We had the spacious family room which was really cosy, beautifully furnished with everything we could ask for.The ensuite was spotlessly clean with a lovely hot shower which was so relaxing after our 270 mile journey from home.We had a gorgeous meal in the restaurant in the evening,I had chicken & haggis,Stu had a mixed grille, both being delicious. On New Year’s Eve we had the buffet evening meal, generous portions of a choice of starters, mains & deserts. We both had melon starters & I had scrumptious home made lasagne,Stu had Beef in Ale Stew also delicious. For deserts I had banoffee pie with ice cream,Stu had cheesecake with ice cream, they were so nice we had seconds,Stu had another portion of cheesecake,I tried the cheesecake & white chocolate mousse, all being absolutely gorgeous. After our meal we went to the bonfire which was amazing, the best new year celebrations I have ever been to,in fact the best bonfire I have ever been to,truly an event the organisers should be very proud of. Our weekend surpassed all expectations & we would definitely highly recommend this hotel & would love to return again in the future. A big,big Thankyou to all the friendly staff who made our stay so enjoyable. Also a very big Thankyou from Howi who is sorry he left a few dog hairs on the carpet,he loved his stay & always wagged his tail when we walked down the corridor to room 9.xxx🐾🐾🐾

my daughter and myself stayed at the elphinstone hotel on 3rd September 2017.we arrived late in the evening and were shown our rooms.my daughter hada room at the back and I had a room at the front with lovely views of the hills and countryside.the shower was lovely and hot and the bed was excellent with with really thick comfy mattress.the breakfast was excellent-as well as large portions.the lady staff member was really helpful and friendly.will definitely visit again.

Hotel - When I first saw the room I thought it was a little strange as it had no windows but that's not a big deal. The room was clean and it had a good size bathroom with separate bath and shower. The bed was really comfy and I slept well. Only downside was the room was near the bar so was a wee bit noisy but wasn't too bad.

Food - had dinner in the restaurant. Staff were great and the food was lovely. Breakfast was also very good.

I'd happily stay there again.

Overnight stay - including watching an Amazing Scottish rugby win!

This was a last minute idea and an excellent one! We travelled to Biggar and checked in to our immaculate room then headed to the bar to watch Scotland v Australia next to a really cosy wood burning stove!

All the staff were really friendly and accommodating throughout our visit and our evening meal was excellent. I had seabass which was cooked to perfection on a bed of the tastiest tatties I have had in a long time!

We hope to return!
