A decent budget friendly resort

We booked the Grand Legacy at Mahabaleshwar for a stay during the the weekend of January 2017. (Jan. 26-28, 2018) Selected this resort more from the lack of other choices given that bookings in Mahabaleshwar were full!

Location: The resort is located around 4-5 kms before the city center/ main market. You will need to be careful since there is a 100% chance that you will miss the small and steep lane that leads to this resort. A more famous and easier to recognize landmark is the Saj resort and you can access this place from the lane adjacent to the Saj resort as well.

Property: The property is huge and decently maintained. Don't expect 5 star property - it is not! However does very well for the price point. The lawns are well manicured and for me, the best thing about the resort. They have a small swimming pool as well but didn't have too many facilities. Also is quite far off from the rooms and not sure who would want to walk all that distance back to the rooms in Mahabaleshwar weather! Would also recommend they offer a lift or some alternative solution since senior citizens / handicapped may have to maneuver a flight of stairs to enter the resort. Quite a bit of walking!

Rooms: The rooms are well appointed with huge beds. We stayed in the Orion suites - basically a 3 bedroom wooden suite with attached bath and a nice sitting room. There were king size beds in all the rooms. The best part was that there was a huge private sitting area directly overlooking the mountains. The views are just amazing. You can have a leisurely morning/ evening tea as you gaze out at the sun rise/ set. Simply superb. However they could do better with maintenance of the rooms. The doors had wide gaps even after closing and floors were creaking. Also if you're looking for privacy - forget it! The gaps in the wooden panels of doors and the walls meant that even a small whisper in one of the rooms is heard across! They could do well to "plug the gaps" as it were.
Also the bathroom could do with some separators. No separation of the dry and wet areas means that the bathrooms get all wet and slippery after use. They do seriously need to look at an overhaul of the rooms (esp. the ones with wooden panels) It's such a shame that the concept is amazing but not executed very well.

Food: The food has to be the highlight of this place, apart from the beautiful views. The food is simple AMAZING! We had booked an all meals package and remember each and every meal, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner. The choice of dishes provided and taste was very good indeed. They were also kind enough to customize to accommodate Jain preferences. The service is also amazing with the team ready to serve you at your table. Typically a buffet offering in most hotels doesn't have a very personalized in-table service - but not here! The food left you craving for more. Kudos to the chef and the entire F&B team.

Overall: Overall a nice resort, but has the ability and resources to compete with the best. They have an amazing property, excellent food and great service. They need to seriously look at refurbishing their rooms, maybe add some carpeting and redo the interiors. They can then really command a premium for their property and attract the traveler community.

Steep to the Hill

Grand legacy is a good hotel and the tent stay was good. One can see the hills giving an effect of being in a hill station. Little far from city centre but thats was more peace andd fun and away from the world.

dont go as per website picture. the hotel calls itself as grand but actually it is not very grand. it is kind of marriage venue. it has many rooms but so many category of rooms created that creates confusion.
i book grand room which was nicely furnished however we had to ask for linen change as it was dirty.
pool lack privacy and not so big
food is OK
no view from room
i think for this price i could have book another better hotel

Cleanliness and maintenance doesnot justify the tarrif associated too costly (Jacuzzi and WIFI)

1)We checked on 23rd of Dec 2017 (Me with my 2 friends) in the Exotica 4, the room was in very much corner, not properly cleaned specially the commode. The sofa cum bed was not cleaned. I had to ask them to clean it. The blanket provided had stains on it. The staff should be educated before as in how many guests are going to check in so that accordingly blankets, glasses are arranged.
2)The soap holder was broken which was not repaired after the first clean of the bathroom next day as well.
3) Absolute no WIFI. Did not expected that we would face such connectivity issues.
4) The bathroom has no separation for commode and the space for taking bath and Jacuzzi. The water spills and entire bathroom becomes so watery and slippery. Nothing is provided on the floor of bathroom. It was dangerous as any one of us would have had a great fall (terrible!!!!!).
5) Jacuzzi the very most excitement was failed. Earlier the dirty water with bundle of hair popped in the Jacuzzi as we started it. We had to clean that. We drained the earlier water and then again refilled the water which was also not that clean. It took so much of time and we missed our Hi -tea because in winter's as well the hot water timings are restricted in TGL.
6)Too costly as compared to the maintenance of rooms. The name of the resort do not justify its cleanliness and maintenance of rooms as grand as said and showed.
7) The SPA was an another big disappointment for us. It was closed for maintenance. It was not available for any of the day in our stay with TGL. We went to nearby hotel for SPA. This was actually not expected (too much disappointed).

Good Points:

1)Food awesome...but noticed few eatables not too warm. Rest taste, variety awesome.
2)Good Lawn
3)Courteous staff with fast service.

Amazing View

The Resort is located at a very prime location on Panchgani - Mahabaleshwar Road just near 3 kms away from Mapro garden. It is a height hence, the view is awesome. The location of resort allows you to see sunrise and sunset from resort itself. Beautiful location, nice staff, good food and last but not least tent stay makes it mid blowing choice for every couple.
