Disappointing experience on booking - cancelled and went elsewhere
Diane H on 14/12/2017 00:29
I booked through e-booking, a double room bed and breakfast for three nights. I was then contacted by a very abrupt lady at the Nags Head to say that it was a deal where we had to have dinner for the three nights, which we did not want. There was no mention of this on the booking and I contacted e-booking to confirm. I was told by the Nags Head that we would have to dine in, otherwise we could cancel the booking and rebook through the Nags Head and pay a further £85. I did cancel the e-booking and went to the Premier Inn in Thirsk, which was excellent and cheaper.

Dog friendly room with good facilities. Warm welcome, experienced and obliging staff. Local feel and set in small, quiet village. Delicious food for evening meal and a good selection for breakfast. Generous portions.
A welcome surprise.

Stayed for two nights with friends. The welcome received was warm and genuine, our rooms, as indeed the whole place was clean, warm and cosy. A good place to relax and peruse the photos on the walls or books ion the shelves. Evening meals were excellent as were our breakfasts. There was a good selection of beers and wines at an almost reasonable price. Our host Edward arranged for tickets to the races at Ripon at a discounted price for us. Attention to detail was first class and nothing was too much trouble. I/we recommend this place.
Excellent Country Inn

It is a few years since we last had a lunch here and it was so good to see that nothing had changed.
The bar still looks like a traditional country pub - dark wood and nothing plastic!!
The food is as good as we remembered too. This is not just "pub grub" - care and attention is put in to the cooking and the presentation. An excellent menu with lots of "specials" on the boards. We stopped off for lunch before heading North and will certainly not leave it as long before having another lunch here.
Race Day

We have just returned from a 1 night stay. We booked a family room and single occupancy room to attend Thirsk Races. Hotel organised a £5 discount per adult on the day and recommended a taxi firm that charged £15 to the racecourse. Both rooms were spotless, evening meal and breakfast lovely. Owners and staff very attentive. Thank you we have booked a return visit next year x
