Weekend break

Stayed here for a short break. The house is located a little distance outside Thirsk on a busy road, so if you are a light sleeper then there is a room at the back of the house. There are a number of nice places to eat .. all within a few miles drive, but unfortunately nowhere to directly walk to. The local taxi company is very obliging.
The house is quirky and a family run home.. breakfasts are tasty. Good location for a weekend break.
Lovely house, great hosts......

Very, very quiet spot; you can literally drive through the village in five seconds and miss it.. The house is really beautifully appointed; austere and conservative but really nicely done and spotlessly clean. Rooms clean, comfortable and spacious, bathrooms modernized and really lovely. The hosts are very nice people. Full cooked breakfast freshly prepared and delicious....and REAL FRENCH PRESS COFFEE, the best I had during our two weeks in the UK.

My husband, parents and I have returned from a 3 day stay at The Old Rectory.
My parents where upgraded to a wonderful large room overlooking the garden. The bed was enormous and was beautifully furnished.
Our room had a 7ft four poster bed as well as a lot of period features. The facilities in room where very good with a good selection of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, milk and a large bottle of water.
The cooked breakfasts where delicious cooked by Rachel and you could choose whatever combination you liked. There was a good selection of fruit juice, cereal and fruit available.
Paul the owner was very helpful and provided us with sketch maps of scenic routes to Helmsley and the Mousemann museum we visited, as well as a route over moors to Castle Howard.
All together they made our stay very enjoyable and would recommend highly.
Great bed and breakfast beautiful period house not far from Thirsk and the world of James Herriot,

We stayed for three nights at The Old Rectory, for a treat for our 40th wedding Anniversary. The hosts Paul and Racheal made us feel very welcome and was very friendly, nothing was to much trouble, the room was a good size room and the bed was comfortable.
They is a good selection of food for breakfast and they make a very nice Full English breakfast.
Paul the host gave us good advise on where to eat in the area for our evening meal, and in the front living room they was lot's of information on where in visit in the area, We would recommend The World of James Herriot to visit.
If we come to this area again we will stay at The Old Rectory.
Thank you Paul and Rachel and your lovely family .
