The bar area is lovely. Really nice decor, comfy sofaâs, friendly staff.
The food really lets it down.
We arrived early and were told that our table wasnât ready, fair enough. We had a drink at the bar.
When we were taken into the dining room it was so empty that the waitress said to choose which table we would like..........
My starter was cold and tasteless. My main was sent back because that was also cold.
My partner ordered a dessert but they had run out of that particular dish!
No one asked if we would like drinks whilst at the table so we had to go to the bar each time.

My wife and I stayed here over Christmas 2017 due to their being âno room at the innâ or rather no space at her parents place in Poppleton as the whole family had descended.
The rooms were warm and comfortable with a large double shower and tea and coffee making facilities plus a decent sized TV. The breakfast was superb, great fresh fruit, branded individual boxes of cereals plus an excellent cooked offer including fabulous black pudding.
The patron, Mark, treated us to an impromptu fizz tasting one evening and was a most warm and generous host, our only regret was not being able to sample the bar/restaurant menu as we were dining with family at home.
Iâd thoroughly recommend the Red Lion as a place to stay or eat, so much better than a bland and faceless chain hotel.

Only stayed one night but were made to feel very welcome by Mark and Jean. Lovely food and very comfortable room. Special mention to Rachael who although obviously unwell was cheerful and professional. Will definitely return.

The Red Lion is ideally located about 3 miles outside your and a five minute walk to a park and ride station. The owners and staff are very friendly and willing to assist in anyway they can. The rooms are clean and comfortable with good facilities although the WIFI was non-existent. The evening meal was good and the full English breakfast excellent. The one down side is the close proximity of the A59 road which gives you an early call in the morning

We have been totally blown over with friendly, helpful and ever so joyful staff. Nothing was too much trouble and everything was done with a smile I give them all 10 out of 10 for everything, and we will be going back very soon.
