For what we paid we expected much better. The location is very good, but other than that we did not enjoy our stay. The public areas are somewhat dark and subdued and not enticing.
Our room the first was very noisy - street noises - we asked to be moved to a quieter room away from the street, and the second room had a noise from a generator in the hotel that went on and off every few minutes!! Even worse! Another disturbed night of sleep. These rooms should be priced at half of what they are. The hotel is expensive for what you get. Would not recommend.
Excellent place to stay for couples and families.

Situated about half a kilometer from the Promenade beach and in White Town, the French Colony at Pondicherry, The Richmond is a modern hotel with a charm of the past times. Relaxation and comfort are just two of the many things on offer at The Richmond.
White Town is an exact spot to explore Pondicherry's beautiful cultural sights. An array of attractions, including French War Memorial, Promenade Beach, Old lighthouse, Gandhi statue, Bharahti Park, Notre Dame de Anges, is a must-see while visiting the neighborhood.
The roads of the city are extremely clean and beautiful. The architecture is unusual which makes one take a longer look on it. I was really surprised with the very disciplined traffic, and more so without a single traffic police around in the busy market streets.
Fortunately, everything about the hotel was excellent, and I don't give praise lightly. The rooms were spacious, well equipped, clean, cozy and comfortable. Peace and relaxation prevailed. Very kind and helpful hosts, making us feel very much at home from the very first moment. Kettle, cups and all necessary toiletries were provided and there is also a mini fridge in the room.
The food was very good. A host of items, including North Indian, South Indian and English were served for breakfast, not to forget the delicious Indian and Continental dishes for the main meals. An excellent service accompanied the high quality of the cooking. You can always get a smile out of the waiters.
I could go on but suffice it to say I was very pleased with my stay, and although short and sweet this time, I hope to be back for a longer visit in the future.
Perfect for families, very close to the beach

Perfect getaway from the residency group. Great interiors and spacious rooms that can accommodate a family easily. The wooden panels give a cosy feel to the room. Breakfast buffet is minimal with not too much variety but you have a lot of eateries around. The promenade is just 2 streets away and you can slip off to get some walk by the beach at will. Would suggest you book in advance to get good rates.

We chose this hotel for its location mainly. It is at the heart of the town, is mostly well-maintained - a very cutesy and cosy hotel with a helpful staff!
Getting around is really easy if you want to spend most of your time exploring the city!
