A haven in the Nilgiri hills!

If you like old-fashioned, this is a lively and welcoming place. The staff - without exception- couldn't do enough for you. Food was excellent and menu varied. We stayed 4 nights and were never bored.
I won't repeat what other reviews said. I'd just add two things. DO GET and ayervedic massage - the students from Kerala institute are eager and thorough and will extend the 45-minute session to 1 hour; and
2. DO TAKE the 10-km walj to Lamb's Rock. Ignore the "Lions! and Tigers! And Bears ! Oh my!!" warnings about the road - the road is fine and safe.

This hotel building dates to 19th century. It has hosted many celebrities also.
Though, the layout is not very handsome, rooms are large and bathrooms very well designed. We had rooms# 104 and 105 , which have great positions right in front of their main garden. All the staff members are very helpful, polite and smiling.
The GM, executives chef, Loknath and even housekeeping guy Peter are all assets to this hotel.
Only one downside , all the rooms inside have at least two or three level differences.
Hence, old and disabled people need to take extra care .
Warm Hospitality amidst Decadent Grandeur!

It's easy to lose yourself in the crisp, chilled airy valleys of Coonoor, but to do so amidst the the decadent colonial architecture so well preserved by the folks at Taj/Gateway, is a treat in itself!
The rooms, buildings, furniture all scream of the colonial heritage so well preserved, but with a hint of modernity in the right touches - this coupled with service from the warm smiling faces of people like Peter, Ramesh, Raghu and particularly Logu (who would make for a fine next-in-line front facing staff).. ah! one could not ask for better weekend :)
However, when such heritage gets poorly combined with modern-day policies, this obviously leads to inherent limitations (and there certainly were a few to point out); but these were few and far between to ruin such a magical weekend.
I thank each & everyone of the staff and crew who made our weekend a truly memorable experience of Taj-ness.. thank you and hope to see you at our next adventure
A hearty luncheon in a doll house!

We wandered in hungry and cold and were delighted by the buffet spread in the tiny and quaint dining hall. Rs 1000 all inclusive may seem quite pricey for a tiny hamlet like Coonoor!
But itâs worthwhile if you wish to treat yourself.
Discerning service.
The entire hotel is like a doll house.
Wooden and warm! Every room has its own fire place to cuddle around.
Bit disconcerting to see hotel Managers walk around in coat tails in the flower decked lawn.
They nod at you like benevolent penguins catching a bit of the winter sun !
