What People are saying

Disappointed

Gbra263 on 22/12/2017 22:05

We booked and paid for this in October as a 40th anniversary trip. We arrived on 21 December staying two nights departing 23 December. On 20 December we discovered they were not doing breakfasts and the restaurant was closed from 22 December!!!! We rang them and we were told email management, this we did and we are still awaiting a reply (22 December). The room we booked is lovely, the shower is rubbish but the room which is a suite is lovely. The staff are friendly and helpful and embarrassed over the breakfast situation. The lift which has been out of action since October (apparently waiting for parts) is still out of action which doesn’t help somebody who is on the fourth floor with a bad leg!! Give this place a wide berth or a thorough check before you book.

Would not recommend

We stayed on a BB and dinner basis, rooms were basic, Beds were awful , mattresses cheap and uncomfortable, having had hardly any sleep . we were mislead by the good reviews thinking it was well managed. It's not. The staff kept shouting we were "Groupon people because we asked for a menu as we wanted a starter, Yes we knew we had to pay" it was highly improper even after we all found it amusing to begin with. Frankly there is nothing about this place I would recommend, from its rooms, it's breakfast or its restaurant which is hardly ever open. The heavy bars on the Windows were really intimidating, Even if we were those " Groupon people". Appears most of us were. Glad to be home. Wouldn't return .

A mixed review

We arrived after a really long day travelling by train, plane and taxi from Dorset and heading straight to the office so I was ready to relax by the time we got to the hotel.

First impressions were brilliant, clean modern open spaces lovely reception staff and we did get our free drink on arrival (well deserved!)

We had five rooms each quite different. One of our party was ok the top floor and the loft was out of order - seems this has been like it for some tome and I would recommend that is fixed ASAP not everyone would be able to or appreciate that walk with luggage after a long day or journey.

Two of the party were on the second floor and disappointed that one of them only had a bath in their room - I wasn’t even aware that a bath only option was a thing.

Me and a colleague were on the same floor as reception I think I was in room 206. The decor was dated The furniture was plentiful but again didn’t match the modern reception. The worst bit about this room was the bed - please invest in some decent mattresses or toppers (Asda do some great ones at £40 for a double if replacing mattresses is too expensive. Old spring beds, noisy and very uncomfortable. Had I not been as tired as I was I would have been sleeping on the floor.

Other negatives were:
1. The shower was not powerful but it did its job
2. The towels were tiny
3. The heating was on all night it was like a furnace we all ended up sleeping with windows open
4. I didn’t have biscuits in my room - not an issue but everyone else had them.

I must say that breakfast was very good. The breakfast room was spacious and the help yourself buffet well presented and topped up - a relief when I saw there were around twenty workman waiting to get into the breakfast room before us.

The hotel is good value for money but I wouldn’t choose to say here for leisure unless simple changes had been made. When travelling for business the bed is all I care about and a good nights sleep can set you up for a good day.
