Was sent to Ponta Delgada for a couple of days work and this hotel was very comfortable indeed.
Nice selection of fruit, yoghurt, breads and meats at breakfast which I enjoyed.
The room was comfortable, clean and I have no complaints with regards to the bed.
Staff were very friendly and helpful throughout.
Good location, just a few minutes taxi from the airport and then only a few minutes walk into the town.
I would definitely return in the near future.
TREMENDOUS BANG FOR THE BUCK!!

Hotel Vila Nova is an excellent choice for a very economical home base to explore the enchanting island of Sao Miguel. It is a very easy (and scenic) 5 - 10 minute walk away from the city center of Ponta Delgada and its collection of restaurants, shops and tour company offices. The hotel includes an above average buffet breakfast in the morning with a varying assortment of hot dishes (bacon, eggs, sausage) as well as cold cereals, yogurt, sliced cheeses, sliced meats, hot beverages, bottled water, juices, fresh fruits and bread assortments. The floor to ceiling glass wall in the breakfast room looked out upon the pool area- a most relaxing view.
Our room included two twin beds, ample storage space for clothing, a comfortable lounge chair and hassock , and a small, older tube type television with plenty of channels (including several in English). The bathroom was well designed and organized with a shower AND tub, large mirror, hair drier and ample lighting.
The greatest compliment I can give to the hotel and its staff is that the entire place was exceptionally CLEAN! I travel often and have stayed in many hotels throughout the U.S. and Europe and I can honestly say this hotel ranks in the upper 1% of cleanliness!
Great location, great included breakfast, very hard bed

My wife and I travel quite a bit and the Azores were on our bucket list. When we first visit an area we will usually book a tour package, get our feet wet so to speak then explore on our own. Our stay at Vila Nova Hotel was part of the travel package and a good choice it turns out. Upon arriving in the Azores at 5 in the morning we secured a quick 10 minute cab ride to the hotel. Once we arrived the desk clerk offered us an early check-in (not offered at some hotels on our travels) for additional cost which we were glad to accept. After a few hours sleep we were off to our first tour of the city.
The Hotel is very clean and the staff more than helpful though at times there was a bit of a language barrier, we were never in need of an interpretative help. Vila Nova is right downtown in Ponta Delgada and a nice walk to the town's center, shopping and restaurants. There is secure parking available to guests should you choose to rent a car (which I advise you do).
The morning breakfast buffet was excellent with a wide variety of food choices. Some mornings I would get there late but food offering was still abundant, no left over pickings because the staff is too lazy to cook more. Plenty of waitstaff to help out.
The room we had was very nice and spacious. The hotel maids are friendly and always accommodating. But the beds, I have to say have to be one of the hardest most uncomfortable beds I have slept on and in fact this was the only downside of this hotel. I will say that it seemed like beds were being replaced on the top floor which was closed for the season and if that is the case I would give this hotel a 5 star review for quality for the dollar and location.
A little advise though. We found our hotel rate was much much cheaper when booked through a tour package than if we had booked it ourselves. Worth considering if planning a trip to Ponta Delgado....Tchau!
Delightful and Friendly

We stayed for seven nights there and were very impressed. The hotel is apparently 15 years old but with only a few exceptions it was like new, and while plain and simple in design, is well-appointed with spacious rooms and stylish ensuite bathrooms. They could upgrade the beds, which were a bit hard.
The hotel is within 10 minutes' walk of the centre of Ponta Delgado with its restaurants, cafés and shops, and only couple of kms from the airport.
With a huge choice of restaurants we didn't dine at the hotel where the dinner menu seemed a little conservative.
The dining room was light and airy more suitable for breakfast and the buffet was adequate though not exceptional.
The staff were superb and, upon overhearing it was my birthday sent a bottle of sparkling wine to our room. Lovely touch!
It is worth noting that the hotel is more or less at the end of the airport runway. Not a problem with just a few winter flights but you might want to check the summer situation.
Welcoming hotel, conveniently situated

Spent 7 days here as part of a package. The hotel is in a quiet location near the airport and within easy walking distance of the town. The staff, all English speaking, were extremely welcoming and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Reception staff were able to book restaurants, advise on attractions, arrange a car and driver for the day, etc and even provided a kettle in the room on request! Breakfast was fresh and plentiful - lots of fruit, yoghurts, juices, assorted cold meats and cheeses, lovely choices of breads and, under cloches, bacon, sausages, eggs, mushrooms, etc. - all of which were regularly replenished by the attentive staff. A variety of teas and coffees were also available. All in all, a great start to the day. Having been given a discount voucher for the restaurant on checking in, we dined there one evening. The meal was not exceptional (and priced higher than those we had out) but was very well presented and the waiter most attentive. Had it been busier (we were there out of season), the atmosphere would have been better but you can't blame the hotel for that. Our room was clean and spacious with lovely quality bed linen and the bathroom had liquid soap and a wall hairdrier. The TV, although a bulky old style model, had lots of channels and there were plenty of plugs for charging tech appliances enabling us to enjoy wifi in the room. Following our return in the evenings having eaten out, the bar staff were always welcoming. Somehow (probably from my passport details) the hotel got wind of the fact that I had a birthday during our stay and I was surprised and really touched to find a bottle of fizz in a champagne bucket in the room that evening with a lovely personal letter of congratulations on the event. What a nice gesture! As for the location, The hotel is in a quiet area virtually opposite the military museum and it's a really easy (flat) to walk into town. Although we could see the end of the airport runway from our room the sound of aircraft wasn't troubling. I would happily recommend this hotel to any visitors to this beautiful island.
